\n\tSan Diego Comic Con<\/a> got a healthy dose of peace on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\n\tStar John Cena<\/a> dressed up in full costume as his DC Universe character Peacemaker<\/a> for the show\u2019s Hall H panel. He was joined by showrunner and DC Studios co-president James Gunn<\/a> and co-stars Frank Grillo, Jennifer Holland, Frank Grillo, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, Sol Rodriguez and Tim Meadows.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe panel kicked off by showing the new Season 2 trailer, which reveals that Cena\u2019s Peacemaker travels through a portal to an alternate dimension where \u201cthe grass is greener.\u201d Down on his luck and rejected by Holland\u2019s Emilia Harcourt, Peacemaker runs away to a new universe, which causes inter-dimensional problems. Grillo\u2019s Rick Flag Sr., head of the mysterious DC Universe company A.R.G.U.S., also searches for Peacemaker, who killed his son Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in \u201cThe Suicide Squad\u201d).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cast also discussed the \u201cPeacemaker\u201d opening credits, which included a surprising viral dance sequence in Season 1. Gunn said they weren\u2019t \u201ctrying to overdo it\u201d with the new Season 2 opening credits.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the miraculous things about the first season\u2019s opening credits is nobody saw it. People couldn\u2019t believe what they were seeing,\u201d he said. \u201cIt isn\u2019t trying to one-up the first season. It\u2019s bigger, there\u2019s a different vibe to it. New characters, different dancers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOne of the new dance moves is an homage to \u201cDirty Dancing,\u201d Holland revealed.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have an amazing choreographer who took James\u2019 idea and vibe he was going for and made something special,\u201d she said. \u201cI had an amazing time doing it. I don\u2019t want to spoil anything but there is one particular thing I requested to the universe: \u2018Please allow me to do the lift from \u201cDirty Dancing.\u201d\u2018 I got to do a lift and it\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGrillo joked, \u201cThe dancing started out as something I reluctantly did and it turned into me being the best dancer on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeacemaker\u201d Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max on Aug. 21 and consist of eight episodes. It\u2019s coming more than three years after the release of Season 1, which was back in early 2022. Between the two seasons of \u201cPeacemaker,\u201d Gunn and Safran were hired as co-CEOs of DC Studios, they rebooted the new DC Universe with \u201cSuperman\u201d and \u201cCreature Commandos,\u201d and HBO Max changed its name from simply Max and then back to HBO Max.<\/p>\n

\n\tCena stars as the uber-patriotic mercenary Christopher Smith, who debuted as Peacemaker in Gunn\u2019s 2021 DC film \u201cThe Suicide Squad.\u201d Peacemaker starts out by working for A.R.G.U.S., the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans. In Season 1, he investigates Project Butterfly and is tasked to kill off parasitic aliens that have taken over the minds of humans around the world. In the end, he saved the day and even met the old Justice League (comprised of Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller, who have since lost their roles in the reboot). Most recently, Cena\u2019s Peacemaker had a cameo in Gunn\u2019s \u201cSuperman\u201d earlier this month as a guest on a conservative talk show.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"San Diego Comic Con got a healthy dose of peace on Saturday.
