Actor David Jonsson<\/a> will star as the new Black Panther<\/a> in \u201cBlack Panther 3,\u201d the next installment of the hit Marvel<\/a> films, director Ryan Coogler<\/a> revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Jonsson is set to portray an adult version of the son of T\u2019Challa, the superhero and leader of Wakanda famously portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman in 2018\u2019s \u201cBlack Panther.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBlack Panther 3\u201d is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2028.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Coogler praised the \u201cincredible\u201d actor as well as his recent roles in 2024\u2019s \u201cAlien: Romulus\u201d and 2025\u2019s \u201cThe Long Walk\u201d before he was welcomed by adoring fans at the convention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and the privilege and the blessing to join,\u201d began Jonsson, who appeared alongside Coogler; \u201cBlack Panther\u201d stars Letitia Wright<\/a> and Winston Duke<\/a>; and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige on the convention stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually don\u2019t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

T\u2019Challa II, or Toussaint, was introduced to fans by his mother, Nakia (played by Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/a>). during a post-credits scene of 2022\u2019s \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

That film sees T\u2019Challa\u2019s sister Shuri (played by Wright) become the next Black Panther following her brother\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s script was rewritten after Boseman died from colon cancer in 2020.<\/p>\n

Duke, who stars as M\u2019Baku in the \u201cBlack Panther\u201d movies, told Variety<\/a> that he trusts Jonsson as an artist and expects him to be a great addition to the franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow I was greeted and received into this world \u2014 which was with a lot of grace, being told it\u2019s a safe space to work, to play \u2014 that\u2019s what I wanted to extend to him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have any advice. I know what I have to do with him, which is to play with him. I have to trust him. I have to give him the same grace that was extended to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wright, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, reacted to the \u201creally beautiful\u201d news of Jonsson\u2019s casting, adding that the actor is a \u201cspecial person\u201d with a \u201cgood heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

She remarked on Shuri\u2019s character growth over the course of the films, noting that she now has to pass on her wisdom and guidance to her nephew, T\u2019Challa II.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to have a really good time, a lot of fun and I\u2019m going to pick on him so much,\u201d teased Wright about working with Jonsson on \u201cBlack Panther 3.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Duke and Wright will be part of the all-star cast of \u201cAvengers: Doomsday,\u201d which is set to hit theaters this December.<\/p>\n
