The storm caused damage in parts of Manhattan, breaking tree branches and affecting public areas.\u00a0 prev<\/p>\n \n Water from the Black River nearly passes a road in Lesterville, MO.\u00a0 Now, a very active Monday morning is shaping up as those storms are likely already underway across Wisconsin<\/a>.<\/p>\n A confirmed tornado tore through the Appleton, Wisconsin<\/a>, area Monday afternoon, and officials are actively responding to calls for assistance.<\/p>\n There are currently over 75,000 homes without power in the state, according to PowerOutage.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the FOX Forecast Center<\/a>, severe storms on Monday morning are barreling through northern Wisconsin, targeting Green Bay<\/a> just in time for the morning rush hour.<\/p>\n The storms are expected to form a quick-moving line pushing south through the state by late-morning, including places such as Milwaukee<\/a>.<\/p>\n SUMMER HEAT FUELS WILDFIRES WHILE MONSOONS TRIGGER SEVERE FLOOD THREATS AS WEATHER WHIPLASH PLAGUES THE WEST<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Forecast models indicate the storms push into Chicago<\/a> by midday, and develop into a Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) \u2014 a large, organized cluster of storms that form an even bigger, single weather system.<\/p>\n This line will move south through Illinois<\/a> and Indiana<\/a> through the afternoon hours, even holding together and impacting portions of western Kentucky<\/a> by the evening.<\/p>\n According to the FOX Forecast Center, these storms could produce destructive winds<\/a> exceeding 75 mph anywhere along the line.<\/p>\n While this could be the beginning of a derecho<\/a>, it is still too early to verify, the FOX Forecast Center said.<\/p>\n WHAT IS A DERECHO?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n A powerful derecho took down trees and knocked out power to thousands around northern Illinois including, Chicago, Joliet and Elgin.<\/p>\n Driven by a massive heat dome<\/a> building to the west, the fast-moving line of storms will race across the region.<\/p>\n WHAT IS A HEAT DOME AND HOW CAN IT AFFECT YOU DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Additionally, embedded tornadoes<\/a> will also be an issue, but the destructive winds<\/a> will be of major concern. Widespread power outages could multiply rapidly as the storms intensify.<\/p>\n While this line of storms will likely be the main event on Monday, farther east in the Ohio Valley and parts of New England,<\/a> there could be additional storms.<\/p>\n Tuesday: Severe storms t<\/strong>arget Mid-Atlantic, Carolinas<\/strong><\/p>\n Come Tuesday, another broad Level 2 out of 5 storm threat has been issued, but now more for the Mid-Atlantic<\/a> and Carolinas.<\/p>\n Storms will be ongoing early from Pennsylvania<\/a> and West Virginia<\/a> into eastern Kentucky as a cold front<\/a> moves through.<\/p>\n This activity will continue shifting southeast into Maryland<\/a>, Virginia<\/a> and North Carolina<\/a> through the day.<\/p>\n 2 DEAD IN WEST VIRGINIA AFTER CATASTROPHIC FLOODING SLAMMED THE STATE, TRIGGERING STATE OF EMERGENCY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n As temperatures rise and moisture increases, some storms could become stronger and more organized. A few supercells<\/a> may develop, bringing a threat for large hail<\/a> and damaging wind gusts.<\/p>\n The strongest wind gusts could become more widespread later in the day, while an isolated tornado or two will also be possible, especially from southeastern Virginia into North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n
