{"id":9641,"date":"2025-06-24T02:55:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/9641\/"},"modified":"2025-06-24T02:55:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T02:55:09","slug":"openais-first-ai-device-with-jony-ive-wont-be-a-wearable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/9641\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI\u2019s first AI device with Jony Ive won\u2019t be a wearable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Thanks to a related trademark lawsuit, we know what OpenAI and Jony Ive\u2019s first AI device won\u2019t be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">In court filings submitted this month, leaders from io \u2014 the consumer hardware team OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/671838\/openai-jony-ive-ai-hardware-apple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently acquired<\/a> from Jony Ive\u2019s design studio for $6.5 billion \u2014 testified that the first device they plan to release won\u2019t be an \u201cin-ear device\u201d or a \u201cwearable.\u201d They also say the AI device won\u2019t ship until \u201cat least\u201d 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201dThe prototype Sam Altman referenced <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1925242282523103408\">in the video<\/a> is at least a year away from being offered for sale,\u201d Tang Tan, io\u2019s chief hardware officer and a former Apple design leader, said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25981887-declaration-of-tang-yew-tan-in-support-of-defendants-opposition-to-plaintiff-iyo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a June 16th declaration<\/a>. \u201cIts design is not yet finalized, but it is not an in-ear device, nor a wearable device.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cFor many months after its founding, io surveyed the existing commercial offerings and engaged in prototyping exercises, as it considered a broad range of form factors, including objects that were desktop-based and mobile, wireless and wired, wearable and portable,\u201d reads OpenAI\u2019s June 12th <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/25981885-io-v-iyo-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition to Iyo\u2019s lawsuit<\/a>. \u201cAs part of these early efforts, io purchased a wide range of earbuds, hearing aids, and at least 30 different headphone sets from a variety of different companies.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/23\/court-filings-reveal-openai-and-ios-early-work-on-an-ai-device\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TechCrunch\u2019s Maxwell Zeff<\/a> first reported on the court documents.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup qnnwq2 _1xwtict9\">\u201cthanks but im working on something competitive so will respectfully pass!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">While Tan\u2019s declaration states that io\u2019s first piece of hardware won\u2019t be an \u201cin-ear device,\u201d it\u2019s clear from the evidence submitted in the case that io and OpenAI have considered the category.
