{"id":964152,"date":"2026-07-28T07:37:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T07:37:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/964152\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T07:37:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T07:37:43","slug":"tuesday-storms-bring-threat-of-tornadoes-and-flooding-to-nyc-area-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/964152\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday storms bring threat of tornadoes and flooding to NYC area \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a run of pleasant summer weather, the chance for severe storms returned Monday evening and stretches through Tuesday, bringing with it the threat of flash flooding, damaging winds \u2014 and even possible tornadoes.<\/p>\n<p>Some isolated cells of severe weather rolled through the area Monday night, triggering multiple weather alerts, including flash flood warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of the city and neighboring counties in New York and New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a flood watch will go into effect at 8:00 a.m. for the entire tri-state area, with the exception of Suffolk County on Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>Storms on Tuesday will be capable of producing very heavy downpours, with rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour.\u00a0This could cause isolated flash flooding in low-lying and urban areas, especially.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7-27-accumulation-forecast-map-1.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7-27-flash-flooding-possible-2.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rain totals could top 4 inches in isolated places where rainfall is heaviest and storms linger over a particular location for two or more hours.<\/p>\n<p>Timing of Tuesday\u2019s storms will be from mid to late-morning through mid-evening.\u00a0Storms will be possible again Wednesday, but they won\u2019t be as intense or widespread.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7-27-severe-weather-threats-1.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Flooding isn\u2019t the only threat on the table Tuesday.\u00a0A secondary threat of damaging straight line wind is possible from a handful of storms that generate wind gusts 60+ miles per hour. These strongest storms are most likely in Central and South Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, we can\u2019t rule out an isolated spin-up tornado or two.
