Neither Shanahan nor the other driver was cited.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened at 6:12 p.m. on July 14 at Alma Street and Hamilton Avenue, near downtown Palo Alto. The airbags in the coach\u2019s black 2023 Tesla Model S and the woman\u2019s blue 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 each deployed, and both parties were wearing seatbelts.<\/p>\n<p>Both parties sustained injuries in the crash, according to the database, though Palo Alto police told ESPN the woman was unhurt. The posted speed limit where the crash occurred was 25 mph.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The crash was first reported Saturday by ESPN, which said Shanahan, 46, suffered severe injuries that included a concussion, a broken left hand, a broken nose, three broken ribs and a facial laceration that required 40 stitches.<\/p>\n<p>NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms, a close friend and college teammate, said Monday that Shanahan nearly lost his right eye.<\/p>\n<p>Simms said Shanahan was leaving Palo Alto after receiving a chiropractic adjustment on the day of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>John Lynch, the 49ers\u2019 general manager, declined to discuss the crash during a news conference Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I\u2019m going to leave that to Kyle,\u201d Lynch said. \u201cI think that\u2019s more personal because everything\u2019s secondhand. I don\u2019t want to get in because other people were involved, exactly what happened. There\u2019s a report out there and I think I\u2019ll just stick to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Consistent with the state database, Palo Alto police Lt. Nicholas Martinez told the Chronicle on Saturday that officers did not issue citations or suspect either driver was impaired, adding that both stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez declined to provide specific details of the crash, saying collision reports aren\u2019t subject to public disclosure: \u201cThere will be no information released regarding the cause of the collision or who was at fault,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Simms said he was surprised the crash wasn\u2019t made public until Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was sitting there every day after it happened, going, \u2018Is the news gonna break today? Is the news gonna break today? Is the news gonna break today?\u2019\u201d Simms said on an episode of \u201cPro Football Talk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 49ers reported to training camp Saturday, but Shanahan hasn\u2019t returned to full-time duties while he\u2019s still experiencing concussion symptoms. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster and the team\u2019s offensive and defensive coordinators are filling Shanahan\u2019s role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Shanahan has been on the field for part of the 49ers\u2019 first two practices.
