{"id":964530,"date":"2026-07-28T12:12:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T12:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/964530\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T12:12:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T12:12:22","slug":"former-cfmeu-organiser-urinated-on-worksite-floor-amid-standards-dispute-inquiry-hears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/964530\/","title":{"rendered":"Former CFMEU organiser urinated on worksite floor amid standards dispute, inquiry hears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A CFMEU organiser urinated on a worksite floor to &#8220;make a point&#8221; about plumbing standards, a commission of inquiry into the Queensland branch of the union has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Timothy Ellis from JF Hull Holdings, the major contractor involved in the multi-billion-dollar Coomera Connector, detailed a series of incidents in which union officials accessed worksites without authorisation, refused to leave and disrupted works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He recalled one occasion in 2024 in which former CFMEU organiser Luke Gibson allegedly used a worksite toilet at Helensvale and &#8220;urinated on the floor&#8221; in front of two site managers and Electrical Trades Union [ETU] organiser, Stephen Bravo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Mr Bravo came in with a valid permit that day from the ETU to query some of the electrical issues on site,&#8221; Mr Ellis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They were looking around the toilet area \u2026 Luke [Gibson] said: &#8216;That plug is meant to be connected to the sewage tank underneath the building&#8217;. He made a point of it by urinating on the floor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said Mr Gibson stated the plug &#8220;didn&#8217;t meet the plumbing code&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ellis said a cleaner had to be called in to clean the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He told the hearing Mr Gibson repeatedly turned up unannounced at project offices, forcing the company to introduce extra safety measures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He described Mr Gibson&#8217;s conduct as &#8220;aggressive&#8221; and &#8220;unprofessional&#8221;, telling the inquiry he would &#8220;pace&#8221; around rooms, inspecting noticeboards and &#8220;causing disruption&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I asked him to leave a couple of times \u2026 he just ignored me and made comments like, &#8216;I own this office&#8217;,&#8221; Mr Ellis said.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ellis said Mr Gibson often warned the Coomera Connector would become &#8220;Cross River Rail 2.0&#8221; which faced years of industrial turmoil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I took it to mean that we would have ongoing disruptions for the rest of the project \u2014 we were a target,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Gibson resigned from the CFMEU in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Police told not to intervene in disputes, inquiry told<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The inquiry also heard allegations the Queensland Police Union instructed officers not to intervene in worksite disputes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ellis referenced a 2017 incident at a worksite for the Logan Motorway enhancement project in which several CFMEU officials unlawfully accessed the site and refused to leave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police were called but declined to intervene, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The QPS officer advised me at the time that it wasn&#8217;t a police matter,&#8221; Mr Ellis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;One of the police officers had \u2026 been told by the police union not to get involved in a dispute because it was a union issue and they were backing the union.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Close up image of the lapel of a Queensland police officer\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4cf05fe584b4ec0e1bbf9f18e5deed77.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The inquiry heard Queensland police were called to the incident but declined to intervene. (ABC News: Lucas Hill)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The inquiry has previously heard a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-11-19\/qld-cfmeu-inquiry-hearing-geoffrey-watson-john-setka\/106029388\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106029388\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">allegedly signed between the CFMEU and a Queensland police &#8220;association&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Geoffrey Watson SC, the author of a scathing report into the union that triggered the inquiry, alleged he had seen a copy of the memorandum during his investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He said it prevented officers from intervening in industrial disputes, even when they turned violent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Union president Shane Prior has previously labelled the claims &#8220;offensive and outrageous&#8221;, saying he was not aware of the existence of the MOU.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I&#8217;ve got the premier&#8217;s phone number&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Department of Transport and Main Roads [TMR] deputy director-general Julie Mitchell took the stand and was questioned over the former Labor government&#8217;s CFMEU-linked BPIC policy, <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-02-10\/cfmeu-inquiry-hears-labor-leaders-ignored-repeated-warnings\/106325790\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106325790\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which set wages and conditions on state projects.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Mitchell told the hearing that government pressure to adopt the controversial agreement was evidence then-minister Mick de Brenni&#8217;s Public Works department had been &#8220;captured&#8221; by the CFMEU.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They&#8217;re being unduly influenced in their policy outcomes by one particular stakeholder,&#8221; Ms Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She said the CFMEU &#8220;took advantage&#8221; of such political support to &#8220;exert influence&#8221;, alleging that former union boss Michael Ravbar would regularly threaten to contact then-premier Annastacia Palaszczuk during disputes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man standing inside a room in front of a black wall, looking serious.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/3d9da4afa899bcb2728571b87a3f9bdc.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Ms Mitchell told the inquiry Michael Ravbar regularly threatened to contact then-premier Annastacia Palaszczuk amid disputes.
