Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon will be on the PUP list to start training camp on Wednesday with a \u201cfrustrating\u201d calf injury and currently has no timeline about a potential return.<\/p>\n

Chicago Bears slot cornerback Kyler Gordon finds himself on thin ice with the organization after a calf injury landed him on the physically unable to perform list<\/a> ahead of the start of training camp. <\/p>\n The Bears confirmed the soft tissue setback, after general manager Ryan Poles met with the media on Tuesday and Poles offered blunt context on a situation that has become a growing concern across the entire roster heading into the 2026 season.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously he\u2019s frustrated. We\u2019re frustrated,\u201d Poles told reporters on Tuesday. \u201cWe just want him back. He helps our football team but we have to move forward with the guys we have. And when he\u2019s ready to go, he\u2019ll be ready to go. Everybody here is putting all of their time and effort to get him back right.\u201d<\/p>\n Gordon missed 14 games during the 2025 regular season while battling calf, groin, and hamstring injuries. He briefly returned for the start of the offseason program before being sidelined again with the injury. <\/p>\n \u201cHe was here all offseason training and getting right,\u201d Poles said. \u201cWe had a delay in that. All hands on deck to get him back.\u201d<\/p>\n Poles made it clear the frustration is mutual. The organization is frustrated, and Gordon himself is frustrated. The concerning part of all of this is that there is still no timetable for Gordon\u2019s return to the field.<\/p>\n \u201cI really don\u2019t know,\u201d Poles added when asked about Gordon\u2019s expected return. \u201cHe\u2019s got to get right and I think the important thing that we\u2019ve all talked about is when he gets back, we need him to stay back.\u201d<\/p>\n The lack of a defined return window compounds the problem. Training camp reps are finite, and Gordon has already burned through most of his goodwill with the coaching staff after missing nearly the entire 2025 season. Bears head coach Ben Johnson acknowledged in the spring that he hasn\u2019t had a real chance to evaluate Gordon<\/a> after the cornerback missed so much time last season and continues to miss time this offseason.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen he gets back, he\u2019s going to have to earn to get that trust back and that dependability,\u201d Poles explained. \u201cWe got to put all of our guys in a good position to be successful. And the up-and-down and moving guys around is really tough. So, he\u2019ll have to earn that when he gets back.\u201d<\/p>\n The clock is ticking toward Week 1<\/p>\n The Bears still have a few weeks before the regular season opens, and the hope is Gordon finds a way to get back on the field at some point during camp to get his legs back under him before the season. But that hope sounds thin after today\u2019s press conference for a player who has missed this much time.<\/p>\n Gordon\u2019s situation speaks volumes about where he stands with the franchise. When a general manager publicly calls the situation frustrating and a head coach admits he doesn\u2019t know the player, the message is loud. Gordon needs to get healthy and have productive reps in a hurry, and the unknown timeline isn\u2019t helping things.<\/p>\n For now, the Bears are planning without him when practice opens on Wednesday.
