{"id":96762,"date":"2025-07-27T13:06:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T13:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/96762\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T13:06:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T13:06:45","slug":"district-8-councilwoman-ivalis-meza-gonzalez-arrested-on-driving-while-intoxicated-charge-records-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/96762\/","title":{"rendered":"District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez arrested on driving while intoxicated charge, records show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 San Antonio City Council District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez was arrested late Thursday on a driving while intoxicated charge, according to a warrant obtained by KSAT. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez, who was elected to the seat in the June 6 runoff, was pulled over around 11 p.m. on Interstate 10 after leaving a downtown club, the warrant states. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to the warrant, a San Antonio police officer initiated a traffic stop on Gonzalez\u2019s vehicle after she was seen driving at a slower speed than other vehicles and failed to remain in a single lane along I-10 at Hildebrand Road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The officer asked Gonzalez if she had been drinking, and she denied it, according to the warrant. Gonzalez said that she was coming from the Centre Club in the downtown area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">During a sobriety test, the warrant said that Gonzalez had \u201cwatery, glossy eyes\u201d and had a \u201cmoderate odor of intoxicants.\u201d SAPD-issued documents state that Gonzalez also slurred words.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After Gonzalez was placed into custody, the warrant said that the officer requested a sample of Gonzalez\u2019s breath or blood, and she refused. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Court records indicate that Gonzalez was booked Friday morning into the Bexar County jail on a $1,000 bond, where she was later released. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Thursday was Gonzalez\u2019s second arrest for driving while intoxicated, Bexar County records show. The first time was in June 2010 when she was taken into custody by a Bexar County sheriff\u2019s deputy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Before 9 a.m., Friday, video from the magistrate\u2019s court showed a shackled Gonzalez limping as she appeared before a judge.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m deeply regretful\u2019 <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez addressed reporters after she was released from the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Friday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez shared with KSAT that she was filled with regret over the disappointment she had caused her fellow council members. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cLast night I was pulled over on suspicion of a DUI. I know as a public servant, we are held to a higher standard, and I failed to meet that standard,\u201d Gonzalez said, in part. \u201cI\u2019m deeply regretful at the disappointment I\u2019ve caused my constituents, my family and my colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As for any future developments in the case, Gonzalez also said she \u201cwill take full responsibility and make sure that my constituents are fully represented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez refused to answer additional questions. <\/p>\n<p>Gonzalez\u2019s background <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez won the District 8 city council seat in the runoff election after capturing 57.35% of the vote. She said that her top priority was to ensure a smooth transition in the district by addressing any ongoing issues that residents have with the councilmember\u2019s office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gonzalez previously worked at the San Antonio River Authority and most recently served as chief of staff for former Mayor Ron Nirenberg.<\/p>\n<p>Three San Antonio city councilmembers arrested for DWI in three years<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She\u2019s the third San Antonio City Council member to be arrested for driving while intoxicated in the past three years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On Nov. 6, 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2022\/12\/29\/14-drinks-in-4-hours-new-details-emerge-in-san-antonio-city-councilman-clayton-perrys-dwi-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2022\/12\/29\/14-drinks-in-4-hours-new-details-emerge-in-san-antonio-city-councilman-clayton-perrys-dwi-charge\/\">then-District 10 Councilman Clayton Perry<\/a> was arrested after San Antonio Police investigators said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2022\/12\/29\/14-drinks-in-4-hours-new-details-emerge-in-san-antonio-city-councilman-clayton-perrys-dwi-charge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2022\/12\/29\/14-drinks-in-4-hours-new-details-emerge-in-san-antonio-city-councilman-clayton-perrys-dwi-charge\/\">Perry drank 14 drinks in a four-hour period <\/a>at a North Side bar, drove into another car at an intersection, fled the scene and was later found in his backyard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On Dec. 29, 2023, current District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/11\/06\/san-antonio-councilman-takes-plea-deal-in-dwi-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/11\/06\/san-antonio-councilman-takes-plea-deal-in-dwi-case\/\">was pulled over<\/a> after San Antonio police said he was speeding on Northeast Loop 410 and didn\u2019t properly signal a lane change. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Whyte admitted to having three drinks over the course of the evening and was arrested after undergoing a battery of field sobriety tests.
