{"id":96920,"date":"2025-07-27T14:33:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T14:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/96920\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T14:33:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T14:33:12","slug":"in-n-outs-eastward-move-left-southern-californians-with-a-sour-taste","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/96920\/","title":{"rendered":"In-N-Out&#8217;s eastward move left Southern Californians with a sour taste"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> Newsletter <\/p>\n<p class=\"module-title\">You&#8217;re reading the Essential California newsletter<\/p>\n<p class=\"module-description\">Our reporters guide you through the most important news, features and recommendations of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Enter email address   <\/p>\n<p> Sign Me Up   <\/p>\n<p class=\"module-disclaimer\"> You may occasionally receive promotional content from the Los Angeles Times. <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s something about In-N-Out that strikes a fierce if not irrational sense of pride among many Angelenos and Southern Californians.<\/p>\n<p>There are several <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/InnoutBurgerEnthusiast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fan clubs<\/a> and awards, including Yelp\u2019s <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/article\/yelps-top-25-burger-chains-in-the-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">No. 1 Fast Food chain<\/a> honor earlier this year and Market Force\u2019s 2022 \u201c<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/in-n-out-burger-wins-consumer-favor-in-market-force-informations-new-study-301679727.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best burger experience<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, there isn\u2019t the same fervor for Southern California\u2019s own McDonald\u2019s, one of the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/powerful-brands\/list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top 10 brands in the world<\/a>, or for Santa Barbara\u2019s The Habit, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/food\/2024\/10\/01\/habit-in-n-out-billboard\/75473159007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which beat In-N-Out in July 2024<\/a> for USA Today\u2019s best fast food burger accolade.<\/p>\n<p>Times readers even <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/food\/newsletter\/2022-10-22\/tasting-notes-fast-food-burger-power-rankings-tasting-notes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lambasted former food columnist Lucas Kwan Peterson<\/a> when he placed L.A.\u2019s Fatburger atop his <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/food\/story\/2022-10-14\/fast-food-burger-power-rankings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fast food burger rankings<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that\u2019s what made the news that Lynsi Snyder, billionaire owner and chief executive of the iconic Baldwin Park brand, was leaving the Golden State last week all the more jarring.<\/p>\n<p>Colleague <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/people\/piper-heath\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Piper Heath<\/a> broke <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2025-07-21\/in-n-out-leadership-announces-relocation-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">down the announcement Monday<\/a>, while columnist <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/people\/lorraine-ali\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lorraine Ali<\/a> opined on <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2025-07-23\/in-n-out-burger-is-not-moving-its-headquarters-out-of-so-cal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what the decision meant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What in the Flying Dutchman is going on?<\/p>\n<p>Snyder made an appearance <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/ep-1219-after-77-years-in-n-out-offices-are-moving\/id1359249098?i=1000717991605\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the podcast \u201cRelatable\u201d<\/a> on July 18, hosted by conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey.<\/p>\n<p>During the  interview, Snyder uttered a statement that created shockwaves locally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here. Doing business is not easy here,\u201d she said as part of her announcement that her business was continuing its eastward expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The move to Tennessee represents a seismic shift for the leader of the brand. Currently operating more than 400 locations across eight states \u2014 California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, Texas and Idaho \u2014 In-N-Out has long thrived on being the burger chain you couldn\u2019t find everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>How has the move been interpreted<\/p>\n<p>Snyder\u2019s  comments set off a disinformation blitz, launching the Double-Double into the middle of a red-state\/blue-state culture war where, clearly, nothing is sacred, Ali wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Cali factions incorrectly <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sZ6MyW8uYis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crowed about<\/a> yet another business fleeing the West Coast. More proof that Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s \u201cfailing\u201d state sucks!<\/p>\n<p>It appeared that In-N-Out was following Tesla and Charles Schwab, companies that cited regulatory challenges and operational costs among their reasons for relocating. Chevron also fled.<\/p>\n<p>Many in SoCal felt abandoned and disrespected. They, after all, propped up the chain for 76 years, only to be told by its owner that the place that made her family\u2019s business \u2014 their home \u2014 is no longer to her liking.<\/p>\n<p>On X, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OracleSeagull\/status\/1946715170249621730\" target=\"_blank\">Oracle Park Seagull<\/a> posted \u201c\u2018Not easy for In N Out to do business in California\u2026\u2019 Said the person who became a billionaire doing business almost exclusively in California. So much so, it was a point of pride for the chain.
