Joaquin Niemann surged into a commanding six-shot lead in the second round of LIV Golf UK and then disclosed details about why he sacked both his caddie and coach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Niemann<\/a>, 26, raced into the outright lead at LIV Golf UK after firing a scintillating 8-under 63<\/a> on Saturday at JCB Golf & Country Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Torque GC captain looks on from 14-under par and six shots ahead of two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson heading into Sunday’s final round in Rocester, England.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Niemann is now on the verge of racking up a record fifth win of the season and a record seventh overall on LIV Golf<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A victory will also see him secure LIV Golf’s Individual Championship for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But back to the top of the story and Niemann confirmed the reasons for axing both his long-time caddie and coach<\/a> ahead of LIV Golf UK.<\/p>\n

The update of Niemann’s split with both his coach and caddie was confirmed to GolfMagic earlier this week by Golf Lovers United GC<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Niemann missed the cut by one shot at The Open last Friday, and he left Royal Portrush frustrated, reflected none more so than angrily stomping on his bag<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It marked his second consecutive missed cut in the majors and Niemann felt the time had come for wholesale changes in his team.<\/p>\n

Not only did he decide to fire his long-time caddie, but also his long-time coach as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Niemann told reporters after the second round at LIV Golf UK that he was low on confidence starting out this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite winning four times on LIV this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

GolfMagic has discovered Niemann’s new caddie is his good friend Diego Salinas<\/strong>, who is a professional on the Chilean Golf Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Niemann’s former caddie Gary Matthews had worked for him since the 2020 US Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The name of Niemann’s new golf coach remains unknown at this stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Niemann previously worked with coach Eduardo Miquel since he turned pro in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Yeah, actually it’s been a little — I’d say it’s been a little weird the last two, three weeks,” said Niemann after taking a six-shot lead into the final round of LIV Golf UK.<\/p>\n

“There’s been obviously a few movements on my team. At the same time, it is what it is.<\/p>\n

“I’m really grateful for them, for the two people that they are not working with me anymore on the team, but it’s part of it, and I feel like I was pretty frustrated at the beginning of this week after a bad result, obviously, at The Open as well and all the rest kind of going on.<\/p>\n

“I feel like — not low, but I wasn’t — like going on the golf course going into this week, I wasn’t feeling that confident at all, and I think it was just keep doing the same work that I’m used to and keep working with my team and why we work every time, stay positive with myself. I’ve been staying in the house with Carlos, Sebastian and Mito [Torque GC teammates]. That’s always good fun. You have a laugh here now and then, it’s always good for yourself, and I’m just grateful to have around the people I am right now, and I’m just grateful with the position I am with the people I am and to be able to do this for a living, it’s a gift.”<\/p>\n

On his new-found confidence levels at LIV Golf UK this week, Niemann added: “You know, I don’t know how confidence works, but I feel like the more confident you are, the more — for me, it’s just being committed 100 percent on my golf shots, what I’m trying to see and what I talk with my caddie, and just compromise myself 100 percent to that, and if I ever do that, I feel like I’m confident.<\/p>\n

“Just that, sometimes it’s harder than other times because the ball doesn’t go where you think it’s going. So when you start seeing a few shots going the same way you’re looking at it, it’s a lot of fun.”<\/p>\n
