{"id":970948,"date":"2026-07-31T09:14:23","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T09:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/970948\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T09:14:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T09:14:23","slug":"cop-assaulter-raina-cruise-back-in-custody-after-police-shock-at-early-release-from-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/970948\/","title":{"rendered":"Cop assaulter Raina Cruise back in custody after police shock at early release from prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A failed senate candidate who assaulted a pregnant police officer is back in custody after she was released on home detention almost a year before she was eligible for parole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Raina Cruise, 43, was sentenced to three years, nine months and two weeks imprisonment in June 2025 <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-06-02\/raina-cruise-court-appeal-overturned-jail-sentence-adelaide-cbd\/105366942\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105366942\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after South Australia&#8217;s Court of Appeal overrode the District Court&#8217;s decision<\/a> to suspend her sentence and impose a good behaviour bond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The anti-vaccine protester <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-04-18\/raina-cruise-found-guilty-of-assaulting-police-officer\/103741614\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/103741614\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was jailed after she pleaded guilty <\/a>to two counts of aggravated assault and was found guilty of one count of intentionally causing harm to Constable Anthea Beck in October 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The court ordered Cruise to be ineligible to apply for parole until June 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">However, on Wednesday, Cruise posted a video to Facebook announcing her release from the Adelaide Women&#8217;s Prison, which she captioned &#8220;I&#8217;m home&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I just wanted to post a little video and just say thank you to everyone who supported me and still supports me,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I am truly blessed to have so many amazing friends and family in my life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;When you do have your liberties taken away and be incarcerated for an extended period of time, it makes things very clear just how blessed I am to have such incredible people in my life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On Friday afternoon, Cruise shared another post: &#8220;They are taking me back to jail. (Facebook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A spokesperson from the Department for Correctional Services said its chief executive had &#8220;issued a direction for Raina Cruise&#8217;s home detention to be revoked, and she has been brought back into custody&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Sentenced prisoners are eligible to be released to home detention to serve part of their sentence under strict home detention conditions. This decision is made by the Home Detention Committee,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;The Chief Executive of the Department may, in their absolute discretion, revoke the release of someone under home detention conditions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The department did not say how long Cruise was on home detention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a statement, Deputy Police Commissioner Linda Williams said Cruise&#8217;s early release from prison had &#8220;shocked and distressed&#8221; police and had &#8220;re-victimised&#8221; the officer she assaulted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;What has happened here simply sends the wrong message to the community,&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;When Cruise was handed a suspended sentence by the District Court, I said it did not meet community expectations in any way. (ABC News: Ethan Rix)<\/p>\n<p>Custodial sentence for police assault<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">At the time of her initial sentence, the District Court said that Cruise became aggressive to security guards at a Rundle Street hotel as the two men she was with were ejected from the venue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Cruise and the two men left the venue and were stopped by Constable Beck and another officer who were investigating the assault of the security guards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;During this conversation, a sudden violent altercation ensued between you and Constable Beck, which ultimately led to you grabbing her and dragging her to the ground,&#8221; Judge Joanne Deuter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Constable Beck suffered multiple injuries during the altercation, including two patches of her hair being torn from her scalp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Cruise&#8217;s initial sentence saw <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-12-15\/sentence-prompts-push-for-mandatory-jail-for-assaulting-police\/104727610\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/104727610\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">widespread calls for mandatory jail time<\/a> for anyone convicted of assaulting a police officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Cruise said in her three-minute video that &#8220;it was quite an experience&#8221; while in prison and &#8220;I&#8217;m still recovering&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It could be quite a hostile environment,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;m just adjusting back to the real world, and I look forward to catching up with everyone very soon, as soon as I can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Cruise thanked everyone for the letters of support they sent her while incarcerated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve got hundreds and hundreds of letters here and I did my best to respond to everyone,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man with short hair wearing a blazer, button up shirt and tie.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/c2f29910723c656446489c11c12b6ef2.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Wade Burns has called for an explanation of how Raina Cruise was approved for release.
