Morning lows may only drop into the 90s in both Las Vegas and Phoenix. <\/p>\n<p>How long will the heat last?<\/p>\n<p>Some heat relief will arrive in the northern Rockies by Monday. <\/p>\n<p>But for the Southwest and Great Basin, searing heat is likely to continue through at least the first week of August, if not a bit longer. <\/p>\n<p>(<strong>MAPS: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/maps\/tendayforecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>10-day US highs and lows<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"DCT 28\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"shadow-md rounded-lg object-contain h-auto w-full\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DCT_SPECIAL28_1280x720.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This heat will also affect some popular national parks, including <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/us\/wyoming\/city\/yellowstone-national-park\/tenday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Yellowstone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/weather\/tenday\/l\/locality.220261100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Grand Teton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/us\/utah\/city\/bryce-canyon-city\/tenday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bryce Canyon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/weather\/tenday\/l\/locality.624732908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zion<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/weather\/tenday\/l\/locality.137439980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Death Valley<\/a>. If you&#8217;re planning a visit and would like to hike, do so as early in the morning as you can. <\/p>\n<p>What you should know about extreme heat<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/06\/30\/safety\/heat\/americas-deadliest-weather-heat-waves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Heat is the No. 1 weather killer in the U.S.<\/a>, with hundreds of fatalities each year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Heat lingering into the night for several days in a row is dangerous for those without access to air conditioning, especially in the cores of larger cities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Check on family, friends, the elderly and those with chronic illness who live without access to air conditioning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; If possible, avoid being outdoors for long in the peak heat of the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; If you can&#8217;t stay indoors in the peak heat, take frequent breaks, avoid strenuous activity, drink more water than usual and wear loose, lightweight clothing.<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>MORE: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/2026\/06\/30\/safety\/heat\/affordable-ways-stay-cool-air-conditioning-heat-summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Affordable ways to keep cool during this heat wave<\/strong><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>It has been a record-hot year in the West<\/p>\n<p>Through July 28, it&#8217;s been the hottest year-to-date in over two dozen cities from Texas to Arizona, Nevada to the northern Rockies, according to the Southeast Regional Climate Center.<\/p>\n<p>That includes Las Vegas, Phoenix and Salt Lake City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/forecast\/regional\/news\/2026-03-23-march-record-heat-wave-southwest-plains-california-arizona-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">A late March heat wave<\/a> rewrote state and national heat records in the West.<\/p>\n<p>Summer heat has also not been kind to the West so far.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix has seen 12 days in July at or above 110 degrees. Las Vegas is not far behind with 10 days.
