PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 We continue with First Alert Weather Days for extreme heat around metro Phoenix through Monday at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n
Already on this Friday, we\u2019ve set a record with an overnight low of 94 at Sky Harbor International Airport. The previous warmest low on this day was 91 degrees. That\u2019s a big part of the issue we\u2019re dealing with in this heatwave: no early morning relief. <\/p>\n
As far as highs are concerned, we\u2019ll be in the 114-117 degree range for the weekend, so record-setting on the \u201chigh\u201d side is possible as well.<\/p>\n
The ridge of high pressure that\u2019s currently planted on top of Arizona will be around for the weekend before gradually weakening and shifting a bit to the west. That will allow temperatures to come down a bit.<\/p>\n
Also, the positioning of the high next week will allow some moisture back into Arizona and the number of thunderstorms will pick up.<\/p>\n
It has really dried out the last few days. Just a few days ago, dew points were running in the 60s. Today, dew points are in the 40s, and that\u2019s the kind of change you can feel.<\/p>\n
The next chance for rain around metro Phoenix is next Wednesday and Thursday when we have a 20% chance for evening thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
