Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the ceremony, <a href=\"https:\/\/kampalapost.com\/articles\/gen-kainerugaba-unveils-monument-to-yoni-netanyahu-at-old-entebbe-terminal-reaffirms-uganda-israel-ties\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Kampala Post reported Saturday.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kainerugaba also named those killed throughout the hostage taking, including Jean-Jacques Maimoni, Pasco Cohen, Ida Borochovitch and Dora Bloch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we gather here, we also respectfully remember the innocent hostages who lost their lives during those tragic events,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir memory remains an important part of this solemn history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe friendship between Uganda and Israel extends well beyond the events of 1976. (GPO, Wikimedia)<\/p>\n<p>The unveiling came after Kainerugaba earlier this year <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mkainerugaba\/status\/2024325380799094940?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announced plans<\/a> to place a statue of Yoni Netanyahu \u201cat the exact spot\u201d where he was killed. In a post on X he later deleted, Kainerugaba claimed the statue was divinely inspired.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">UPDATE \u2013 Gen. (AP Photo\/Hajarah Nalwadda)<\/p>\n<p>The hijacking began when an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris, carrying 246 passengers, was seized after a stop in Athens by terrorists from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Germany\u2019s Revolutionary Cells. The plane was diverted to Uganda, where the despotic, notoriously unhinged dictator Idi Amin gave the hijackers safe haven as the hijackers demanded $5 million and the release of 53 pro-Palestinian terrorists.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Fifty years after the Entebbe raid, Uganda unveils a memorial to Yoni Netanyahu, the fallen commando and brother of Israel&#8217;s prime minister. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zakFYZdbkm\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/zakFYZdbkm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Joe Truzman (@JoeTruzman) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JoeTruzman\/status\/2083594005074546911?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">August 1, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After landing, the hijackers proceeded to separate Israeli and Jewish passengers from most of the others, who were released over two days.\n<\/p>\n<p>A week after the hijacking, four Israeli C-130 Hercules transport aircraft landed at the airport after flying thousands of miles to Entebbe and within hours, the now-legendary rescue operation was complete.
