{"id":97493,"date":"2025-07-27T19:39:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T19:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/97493\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T19:39:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T19:39:09","slug":"rashawn-slater-agrees-to-four-year-deal-with-the-chargers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/97493\/","title":{"rendered":"Rashawn Slater agrees to four-year deal with the Chargers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-06-10\/chargers-update\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rashawn Slater<\/a>, a former first-round draft pick and one of the veteran leaders on the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chargers<\/a>\u2019 offensive line, is staying in L.A. for the long haul.<\/p>\n<p>Slater <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/chargers\/status\/1949534019302941015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">has agreed<\/a> to a four-year, $114-million contract extension, according to a person with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly.<\/p>\n<p>A two-time Pro Bowl selection and a second-team All-Pro in 2021, Slater will be paid $92 million guaranteed, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1949530492262567992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ESPN<\/a> and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RapSheet\/status\/1949530526395621459\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">NFL Media<\/a> reported, the most guaranteed money ever for an NFL offensive lineman. The guaranteed amount surpasses the $88.24 million Tristan Wirfs received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/40697664\/sources-buccaneers-ot-tristan-wirfs-agree-1406m-extension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">five-year, $140.6-million deal<\/a> he signed last summer.<\/p>\n<p>Working as <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-06-11\/los-angeles-chargers-minicamp-justin-herbert-focusing-on-future\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Herbert<\/a>\u2018s blindside protector, Slater started every game last season and played a valuable role in helping the Chargers set a franchise record for the fewest offensive turnovers (eight) in a season. He finished last season with the second-best overall grade and the third-best pass-blocking grade at offensive tackle, per Pro Football Focus.<\/p>\n<p>Slater\u2019s tireless efforts certainly won over <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/chargers\/story\/2025-05-10\/chargers-rookies-jim-harbaugh-new-approach\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh<\/a>, who has Slater in his \u201cElite Nine\u201d club that includes stars Khalil Mack, Derwin James Jr. and Herbert, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeaking on behalf of everyone in the organization, fully support Rashawn and what he\u2019s trying to accomplish for himself and his family,\u201d said Harbaugh last month about Slater\u2019s push for a contract extension. \u201cWe\u2019re all in support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slater, who was entering the final season of his rookie deal after the Chargers picked up his rookie option in May 2024, is expected to provide a solid pass and run blocking force for a line that was hampered by injuries and struggled, at times, to create opportunities for the running game last year.<\/p>\n<p>Re-signing Slater is the latest in several moves the Chargers have made to address needs on the offensive line.
