You see that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0a different team with\u00a0a\u00a0nine,\u00a0everybody can move into their positions.\u00a0And as soon as we can get him in sync with the group and understanding who kind of does what and where they go, then you see soft feet, you see some really good runs,\u00a0and\u00a0you see a lot of things that are really positive.\u00a0So,\u00a0I felt like it was\u00a0kind of just\u00a0a matter of time. As we keep moving forward, the idea is that many of them will\u00a0sync\u00a0up the right way and we will\u00a0benefit\u00a0from that.\u00a0I felt like something could be coming, and we were leaning on it. They\u00a0weren&#8217;t\u00a0able to get on the ball very much in the second half. We were able to recover and get some second-phase attacks. I thought something could come out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0Ky\u014dgo\u00a0Furuhashi\u2019s performance in his debut:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a player who really understands the nine position and the movements and has soft feet, and you can play into him. You see him bring it down out of the air, soft feet. His movements are smart,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0quick, repeatable sprints, a guy who can put defenses under pressure with his movements. Again, with his soft feet, he can link up with\u00a0guys. So, I\u00a0think\u00a0a lot of positive things. Even though\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0not the biggest guy,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0strong, and he can hold up things and link up guys, again, with soft feet. But I like the way he moves for this team because he can be dangerous in transition. He can be dangerous with the way he is sharp in his movements\u00a0in and\u00a0around the box. And I think he can connect with Marco\u00a0[Reus]\u00a0and Joe\u00a0[Paintsil]\u00a0and the guys that are in the attacking phase a lot.\u00a0And I think\u00a0he&#8217;ll\u00a0put in\u00a0a real shift on the defensive side as we need him. He always\u00a0has in\u00a0everything that\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen building up to this.\u00a0So,\u00a0I like him. He just brings a lot of\u00a0different parts.\u00a0And equally as important, it allows everybody else to\u00a0go and do\u00a0their roles and become masters of the things\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0supposed to be doing, instead of guys trying to do other roles and fit into something for the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a019-year-old Harbor Miller at right back:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA solid game. For me,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0the transition on a week&#8217;s notice going from being\u00a0kind of a\u00a0maverick attacker, which he was able to do last week to success against San Jose. When\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0attack, you can take\u00a0risk. You can try things. You can do all that. When you play fullback, then\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0got to be a little more controlled, and\u00a0you&#8217;ve\u00a0got to choose between risk and reward a little bit more when\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0in the back line. So, some of the defending moments, it helped, I think, that they were using more of a wingback than a straight-up winger for the day like today. He\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0have a direct winger that he was dealing with. It was a guy who was trying to\u00a0do the running\u00a0with him, which he\u00a0can\u00a0do all day. But I thought he was\u00a0very good\u00a0in\u00a0his decisions. I thought, again, for me the biggest thing for him today was\u00a0to\u00a0get through the defensive pieces of it because\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0just not something\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0had to focus on lately. And I thought he did\u00a0a nice job\u00a0with that.\u00a0And the attacking stuff, he can move with the\u00a0ball,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0a good crosser of the ball.\u00a0We&#8217;ll\u00a0see the things and we have seen the things he can do in attack. Now,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0just balancing your priorities now that\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0in that back line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>LA Galaxy\u00a0General Manager Will Kuntz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the status of his\u00a0roster\u00a0rebuild:\u00a0\u00a0<br \/><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Yeah, obviously\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0begun already\u00a0with Robert [Taylor] and\u00a0Ky\u014dgo\u00a0[Furuhashi], like you mentioned.\u00a0I think we\u00a0are\u00a0very close\u00a0to our third DP. And I think\u00a0you guys\u00a0have heard Greg say before that\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0looking to\u00a0probably make\u00a0one or two\u00a0additional\u00a0moves on top of that.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0a moving picture, as it always is in the window. But,\u00a0yeah, I think\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0very close\u00a0with two more pieces that are going to be additions on top of what\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen from Robert and\u00a0Ky\u014dgo\u00a0so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On if\u00a0the Galaxy needs to move more players out to bring more players in:\u00a0<br \/>\u201cThere&#8217;s always a chance that, in this league, to bring somebody in, you need to create a little space.\u00a0So,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0going to be\u00a0window dependent. But,\u00a0yeah, I would expect certainly one move in the offing and the rest will be\u00a0sort of depending\u00a0on what the market bears.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>On his faith in Greg Vanney as Head Coach:\u00a0<br \/>\u201cI mean, look,\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0seen what happens when\u00a0we&#8217;ve\u00a0got the right group for Greg and\u00a0everybody&#8217;s\u00a0healthy. His\u00a0track record\u00a0speaks for itself.\u00a0So\u00a0my job is to focus on the roster, and my job is to help Greg out.\u00a0So\u00a0if Greg is feeling pressure,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0because\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not doing something right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On if\u00a0negotiations have become more difficult for the Galaxy as other teams grow\u00a0within the League:\u00a0<br \/>\u201cIt&#8217;s\u00a0interesting, I\u00a0haven&#8217;t\u00a0really thought about it like that.\u00a0I think what you&#8217;re seeing from a lot of ownership groups, new and old, is really exciting for the league.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0great that teams are going out and bringing in big-time players. Even markets like Kansas City that in the past\u00a0haven&#8217;t\u00a0really\u00a0spent,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0starting to spend. What I see in this job is that\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a lot of enthusiasm on behalf of players, and as every new player comes in, other players are\u00a0sort of asking\u00a0them, hey,\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0it like? Guys who are with teams in the World Cup, players in the World Cup who played with MLS teammates,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0like, hey,\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0it like?\u00a0So\u00a0to that end, I think\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a lot more excitement, but\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0more competition, which is great. And it keeps us\u00a0honest\u00a0and it keeps us sharp. I think in the past,\u00a0maybe we&#8217;ve\u00a0been guilty of resting on our laurels a little bit too much, and having that level of international competition, I think, or domestic competition for international and domestic players is\u00a0really healthy. But it\u00a0maybe creates\u00a0more competition, but\u00a0I think it\u00a0makes our job a lot more exciting, and it widens the scope of players who are open to coming. That said, I also think that\u00a0we&#8217;re, with all due respect to everybody else, we are a little bit different, right? The stars above the crest do mean something. We are an original team in the league. We are in Los Angeles. And\u00a0I think that\u00a0still carries a lot of weight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>LA Galaxy\u00a0Defender Maya Yoshida<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0if he already has a relationship with\u00a0Kyogo:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe played together on the national team a couple of times.\u00a0Last\u00a0time I met him was a long time ago, but we communicated because he was\u00a0very popular\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0MLS transfer market. And obviously we have the same agent. So\u00a0very happy\u00a0to have him so far. And of course, after Celtic, he had\u00a0a difficult time\u00a0in France and Birmingham. But I know his quality, and you can\u00a0probably see\u00a0a little bit today,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0very quick,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0very skillful. We need his goals. So hopefully we can sort it out together. But he still needs time. Any\u00a0players, even like Son,\u00a0he\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0score\u00a0[for]\u00a0a long time.\u00a0Adjusting to\u00a0this league, this\u00a0country,\u00a0its\u00a0very, very different. So hopefully\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0my job, probably, to\u00a0help him to adapt as\u00a0quick\u00a0as possible. He came last night to my home to have dinner. At least he can get the Japanese food, which is not bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0playing alongside Jakob Glesnes in the back line:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJakob&#8217;s distribution is\u00a0very good, especially diagonal long balls\u00a0very, very good. And defensive, very solid. And what he had done in\u00a0Philadelphia\u00a0and what we expect here from him is a little bit different. So, he needed time to adapt to different\u00a0team\u2019s soccer. And now he totally understands everything, and we understand him as well. So today, we communicate better and organize better defensively. And then he can contribute\u00a0in\u00a0the attacking side as well, set pieces and the distribution.\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0what\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0expecting from him, and I think\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0also a strength of him.\u00a0As I said before, that has to be our standard.\u00a0And we set the standard better, then he can show better performance for sure because\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0a good player\u00a0and he has experience in MLS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0how he is feeling mentally and physically after spending time with the Japanese National Team during the World Cup:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0not playing for the World Cup, joining the national team,\u00a0big\u00a0responsibility. I was like a mentor\u00a0of\u00a0the team.\u00a0So, I have to be the role model of the team on and off the pitch.\u00a0And people know who I am,\u00a0ex-captain of the national team,\u00a0long-time player in that team. So, I was very concentrated, and\u00a0also\u00a0I learned I have to be like this in the Galaxy too. Of course, after the tournament, everybody needed a break, physically and mentally. Luckily, I had to go back to Japan for the green card, so that was two weeks. And mentally I\u00a0reset. Physically, to be honest,\u00a0national\u00a0team training session was really, really hard, very intense, very concentrated. Today, when people are talking about the mental health\u00a0about\u00a0the athlete,\u00a0but,\u00a0to be honest, we need the right break, to reset the mindset for the player who had a big tournament. But the career goes on. You never stop. You can never stop. If you stop, somebody will\u00a0take\u00a0over.\u00a0So,\u00a0this is the hard part of the athlete.\u00a0I have done this national team thing for more than 10 years. Now I understand &#8212; when I joined the World Cup, I was thinking, how can they do that like this? I was like, these guys, over 10 years, and I\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0believe this is what it is now, MLS, and traveling again, Houston, away,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0really,\u00a0really hard. I\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0know why\u00a0I&#8217;m\u00a0pushing so much. This is my\u00a0life,\u00a0this is how I am. And if this passion goes away, then\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0time to retire.
