{"id":976419,"date":"2026-08-02T20:41:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T20:41:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/976419\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T20:41:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T20:41:22","slug":"cop-questioned-on-far-right-rappers-alleged-abuse-of-ties-with-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/976419\/","title":{"rendered":"Cop questioned on far-right rapper&#8217;s alleged abuse of ties with police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Internal Police Investigations on Sunday questioned an officer in connection with allegations made in a Haaretz expos\u00e9 that far-right rapper and influencer Yoav Eliasi, who goes by the stage name \u201cThe Shadow,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/liveblog_entry\/far-right-rapper-suspended-from-leading-tel-aviv-volunteer-cop-squad-over-alleged-misconduct\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">abused<\/a> his relationship with the police.<\/p>\n<p>The officer\u2019s interrogation lasted several hours, and he was released under restrictive conditions, with the internal investigations department opening a formal investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Recordings and other material cited in the expos\u00e9 last week indicated that Eliasi had used his ties with police to avoid harsh repercussions after violent incidents in a Tel Aviv club of which he was a part-owner.<\/p>\n<p>Eliasi was the captain of the Tel Aviv area\u2019s civilian security team and is a vocal supporter of far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has championed the volunteer squads following the Hamas-led onslaught of October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The rapper was suspended from his role in the security team following the Haaretz expos\u00e9, which claimed he had bragged about thwarting the closure of the John Doe nightclub on Tel Aviv\u2019s bustling Rothschild Boulevard after a security guard was stabbed there in September.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition<br \/>\n\t\t\tby email and never miss our top stories\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/terms\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terms<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Israel Police Chief Danny Levy opened an inquiry into the suspicions.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/static-cdn.toi-media.com\/www\/uploads\/2024\/07\/shadow1_autoOrient_g-e1721081538920.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3332612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/shadow1_autoOrient_g-e1721081538920-640x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"375\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n\t\tRapper Yoav Eliasi, \u2018The Shadow,\u2019 shows his \u2018inspector\u2019 insignia, July 15, 2024. (via Facebook)<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Eliasi was a partner in a company that had a stake in the building where the club operates.<\/p>\n<p>Citing audio recordings obtained by the outlet, the report said Eliasi told one of his business partners that he was \u201ceducating\u201d the police \u201cthat they can\u2019t touch this club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further urged his partner to call him about any issues regarding the club\u2019s relationship with law enforcement. \u201cYou call me right away, no matter the time,\u201d he allegedly said.<\/p>\n<p>Employees told the outlet that Eliasi was able to ensure that the club was only shut down for a week, as opposed to the customary 21 days, following the September stabbing.<\/p>\n<p>The rapper\u2019s lawyers told Haaretz and Channel 12 last week that he has not been officially ousted from his role, but instead chose to step aside until further notice as police continue their inquiry into the suspicions.<\/p>\n<p>Eliasi has sparked controversy for allegedly abusing his powers in the past, including an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/liveblog_entry\/vigilante-rapper-detains-foreign-journalists-at-site-of-tel-aviv-missile-impact\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> incident<\/a> during the June 2025 war with Iran, when he and his civilian security squad detained a group of foreign journalists at a missile impact site in Tel Aviv, only for a police spokesman to subsequently release them.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\tWe can&#8217;t do this work alone.\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"200\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Untitled-design-4-200x200.jpg\" class=\"attachment-square size-square wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel.
