{"id":976823,"date":"2026-08-03T01:06:38","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T01:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/976823\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T01:06:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T01:06:38","slug":"jacksonville-marine-veteran-pleads-not-guilty-to-threatening-to-kill-president-trump-in-social-media-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/976823\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacksonville Marine veteran pleads not guilty to threatening to kill President Trump in social media videos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A 36-year-old Jacksonville Marine veteran and former state prosecutor facing a federal indictment pleaded not guilty Thursday to threatening to kill President Donald Trump in social media videos and a message.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The indictment alleges that between July 13 and July 15, William Lintag Upham posted videos in which he wore a military uniform, called the postings a \u201ccall to arms\u201d and urged an overthrow of the administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Upham pleaded not guilty to the charge of threatening to kill the president during a 5-minute hearing in federal court on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">His trial is set for Oct. 5, and the federal offense carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, if he\u2019s convicted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">According to the indictment, in one video, Upham described a method of shooting that included \u201ctwo shots to the chest and one shot to the head.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">In a second video, prosecutors say, Upham called the president the \u201cAntichrist\u201d and a \u201cfalse Messiah\u201d and said he \u201cmust be killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The indictment also says Upham sent an email to a third party stating he \u201cwill kill President Trump at the time that God chooses, not when I choose,\u201d with the intent to communicate a true threat and with recklessness as to whether others would view the statement as a real threat of violence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Upham was arrested July 16 and has been ordered detained, the U.S. attorney\u2019s office said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The U.S. Secret Service received reports about the posts and reviewed the videos, the criminal complaint and the indictment said. Investigators also allege Upham had access to firearms and made concerning statements to law enforcement as recently as July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The Marine Corps said in a social media post that it was aware of Upham\u2019s statements and noted he had been medically discharged on May 30, 2025.
