MOINES, Iowa \u2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"0\">Polk and Dallas county emergency officials are preparing residents for a shift in how they receive important safety alerts.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"1\">Starting at the end of September, both counties will transition to a single public safety opt-in list within the Smart 911 alerting system.  <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"2\">Residents who are already signed up for alerts from individual cities will need to subscribe to the new Public Safety list to continue receiving those alerts.  <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"3\">Officials say the &#8220;change creates a faster, more consistent alerting process during emergencies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smart911.com\/smart911\/ref\/reg.action?pa=polkcountyia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Click here to sign up for alerts<\/a> on incidents or events including, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polkcountyiowa.gov\/emergency-management\/be-prepared\/polk-county-alert-iowa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to local officials<\/a>:  <\/p>\n<ul data-node-id=\"5\">\n<li>Severe Weather Alerts: Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, Flood, Flash Flood, High Wind, and Blizzard Warnings.<\/li>\n<li>Environmental and Natural Disasters: Floods, Dangerous Water Conditions, Water Safety Alerts, Dam\/Levee Breaks<\/li>\n<li>Search and Rescue: Missing Children, Missing Elderly, Missing Disabled, Evacuation Notices, Evacuation Routes<\/li>\n<li>Crime: Law Enforcement Activities, Prisoner Escape Warning, Neighborhood Crime Watches<\/li>\n<li>Man-Made Disasters: Terrorism Threats, Bomb Threats, Nuclear Hazards, Bio Terrorism Threats, Chemical Spills, Hazardous Material Emergencies, Gas Leaks, Hostage Situations<\/li>\n<li>Public Works: Drinking Water Contamination, Utility Outages, Street Closings, Public Notifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p
