Nearly eight months after Larian\u2019s new Divinity was unveiled with an, um, intense trailer at the Game Awards, someone has managed to find a secret hidden within it that went unnoticed till now that hints at some of what we\u2019re in for when the game finally launches.<\/p>\n
This comes from WolfheartFPS<\/a> (via Polygon<\/a>), who did a breakdown of the Divinity trailer on his channel yesterday. Specifically, he\u2019s tearing into a behind-the-scenes post made on LinkedIn last week<\/a> by Unit Image, which collaborated with Larian on the cinematic. The new video shows some up-close images and models from the trailer that we previously weren\u2019t able to see in this level of detail, and WolfheartFPS has managed to find something pretty cool within those close-ups.<\/p>\n WolfheartFPS points out that in the behind-the-scenes video, the writing on the crown worn by the old man being tortured\/sacrificed is actually decipherable, whereas in the trailer it\u2019s not clear enough. After hours of work and careful study, WolfheartFPS determined that the runes were likely representative of Elder Futhark, a real-world Germanic, runic alphabet that\u2019s the oldest of the runic alphabets in the world. Elder Futhark has 24 total runes, and WolfheartFPS believes that the ones on the crown can be roughly translated to \u201ckhaahs is kommng\u201d or, phonetically, \u201cchaos is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n This is significant in the world of Divinity, given that Chaos is a central force of evil in Rivellon, and is the creator of hell and demons. When we last heard from Chaos, it had been banished by the Council of Seven, but had attempted to possess a character named Damian in a bid to return to the world. Though that seems to have failed, a lot of people think (based on cues elsewhere in the trailer) that Divinity will be about the return of Chaos to the world after humanity rejects the gods, with the scene in the trailer showing Lucien the Divine (or someone intended to represent him) being burned to signify that rejection.<\/p>\n If that all makes no sense to you, don\u2019t worry. All you need to know is that Chaos is probably coming to Rivellon in Divinity, whether we like it or not.
