{"id":979730,"date":"2026-08-04T08:51:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T08:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/979730\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T08:51:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T08:51:15","slug":"north-scottsdale-dog-park-nearing-completion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/979730\/","title":{"rendered":"North Scottsdale dog park nearing completion |"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A\u00a0$6.1 million North Scottsdale dog park is almost ready \u2013 finally, after nearby owners have had to \u201csit\u201d and \u201cstay\u201d for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Thompson Peak Dog Park is at 20199 N 78th Place, near the southwest corner of Hayden Road and Thompson Peak Parkway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Construction is underway and is expected to be completed late this summer, according to the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The long-awaited dog park was funded as part of the 2019 bond package approved by voters. Design work was done in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">A grand opening was scheduled for last fall but delayed as construction lagged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Inflation and other factors pushed the park\u2019s cost about 33% above its original $4.6 million price estimate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Three summers ago, Councilman Barry Graham \u2013 who voted against tax and water-rate increases and criticized cost increases of other projects \u2013 had no bone to pick with a $6 million dog park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He noted this is a voter-approved project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cThe city should prioritize the 3.5-acre dog park and extra parking that residents voted for in 2019,\u201d Graham said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The price tag includes $757,469 for design, $328,250 for administration, $52,938 for public art and $4.2 million for construction \u2013 with $841,634 held for \u201ccontingency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><strong>The project will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Three fenced cells or play areas for dogs;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Shade canopies, benches, water fountains and pet waste disposal stations;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">A footbridge to connect the off-leash area to existing park amenities;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Additional parking along Hayden Road;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">A new restroom building;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Public art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">According to the city, \u201cThis project will build a three-and-a-half-acre dog park consisting of separate fenced and gated areas. The park will be designed and constructed in a manner similar to the off-leash area at Chaparral Park and provide pet owners a safe place to exercise their dogs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><strong>Scottsdale\u2019s other dog parks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Chaparral Dog Park, Scottsdale\u2019s most popular dog park, includes 3 acres of grass, benches, play features and water fountains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Two areas are the majority of the time with one area designated for active dogs and another for passive dogs. The third area (on rotation) is closed for maintenance and turf repair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Horizon Dog Park is a smaller area located in a retention basin on the far west end of Horizon Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">It has a large shade structure, a water fountain for you and your dog, and a water feature to control the dust.
