PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 The Chicago White Sox targeted bullpen, outfield and catching depth in three separate deadline trades on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In the search for help behind the plate, the Sox acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/08\/03\/chicago-white-sox-braves-joey-bart-trade\/?utm_campaign=mrf-bluesky-chicagotribune.com&amp;utm_source=bluesky&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;mrfcid=202608036a6a62ca8cfafb73d496fbb1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">catcher Joey Bart<\/a> from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Duncan Davitt.<\/p>\n<p>They also added <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/08\/03\/brenton-doyle-chicago-white-sox-trade\/?utm_campaign=mrf-bluesky-chicagosports.bsky.social&amp;utm_source=bluesky&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;mrfcid=202608036a6a6852f6c1ac7724f85340\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">outfielder Brenton Doyle<\/a>, a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, from the Colorado Rockies for minor-league pitcher Mason Adams and infielder Carlos Vielma.<\/p>\n<p>And they picked up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/08\/03\/huascar-brazoban-chicago-white-sox-trade-deadline\/?utm_campaign=mrf-bluesky-chicagotribune.com&amp;utm_source=bluesky&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;mrfcid=202608036a6a62ca8cfafb73d496fb7a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reliever Huascar Brazob\u00e1n<\/a> from the New York Mets for minor-league pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouldn\u2019t be more excited with what we were able to accomplish,\u201d Sox general manager Chris Getz said during a videoconference call about the trades made Saturday and Monday. \u201cFeel really good with what we were able to accomplish. And I feel like we\u2019re well-positioned for the remainder of the year, and we\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To make room for Bart on the 40-man roster, the Sox designated outfielder Everson Pereira for assignment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Braves' Joey Bart hits a two-run home run during the eighth inning against the Pirates at PNC Park on July 8, 2026. (Photo by Joe Sargent\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Bart, 29, has a combined .226\/.303\/.377 slash line with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 41 games this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Braves. He was traded from Pittsburgh to Atlanta on June 18.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft by the San Francisco Giants, Bart has a career .238 average with 32 home runs and 126 RBIs over 376 career games in seven big-league seasons with the Giants (2020-23), Pirates (2024-26) and Braves (2026).<\/p>\n<p>Edgar Quero and Drew Romo have handled a bulk of the catching duties for the Sox this year, with Kyle Teel spending a chunk of the season on the injured list. Teel is currently on the IL with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/07\/21\/chicago-white-sox-kyle-teel-ankle-injury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">left ankle sprain<\/a>. The Sox are confident Teel will return this season.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, the Sox plan on optioning Quero and going with Bart and Romo as the major-league tandem.<\/p>\n<p>Getz described Bart as \u201csomeone that is experienced and is only going to help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do feel like Joey and Romo are going to set us up for wins here when it comes to the month of August,\u201d Getz said.<\/p>\n<p>Davitt, who appeared in two games this season with the Sox, had been designated for assignment earlier Monday to make room for Doyle on the 40-man roster.<\/p>\n<p>Doyle, 28, is slashing .214\/.287\/.282 with one home run and five RBIs in 45 games this season. He was on the injured list from May 20 to July 31, reportedly being slowed first by a left oblique contusion and then a left groin strain.<\/p>\n<p>Doyle has a career .233\/.284\/.385 slash line with 49 home runs and 182 RBIs in 458 games during four seasons with the Rockies (2023-26). (AP Photo\/Laurence Kesterson)<\/p>\n<p>The Sox see Doyle as \u201ca guy that we feel like has more offensive potential in his game, in addition to the fact that he is a top defender that\u2019s going to help us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams, 26, went a combined 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 14 outings (12 starts) for the Arizona Complex League Sox, High-A Winston-Salem and Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He was the No. 8 prospect in the organization, according to MLB.com.<\/p>\n<p>Vielma, 16, had a .337 average with one home run and 21 RBIs in 34 games for the Dominican Summer League White Sox.<\/p>\n<p>Brazob\u00e1n has been sharp lately, posting a 0.84 ERA (one earned run in 10 2\/3 innings) over his last 10 outings. Overall, the right-hander is 5-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 46 games (six starts) this season. He has 49 strikeouts and 23 walks in 52 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<p>Brazob\u00e1n, 36, has a 3.49 ERA and 262 strikeouts in 258 innings during 214 career games (nine starts) over five major-league seasons with the Miami Marlins (2022-24) and Mets (2024-26).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got a great attitude,\u201d Getz said. \u201cEveryone I talk to, not only with the Mets and other people, they\u2019re like, \u2018This is a guy that can really help the group that you have right now, he\u2019s going to fit right in.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Franklin has a 4.37 ERA in 33 appearances (one start) this season for Triple-A Charlotte. Davis had a combined 5.81 ERA in 18 starts at High-A Winston-Salem (eight starts) and Double-A Birmingham (10 starts) in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the American League Central-leading Sox were active at the trade deadline. That includes Saturday, when they acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/08\/02\/chicago-white-sox-mariners-luis-castillo-trade\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">starter Luis Castillo<\/a> from the Seattle Mariners. Castillo is slated to make his Sox debut on Thursday in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did want to preserve our top prospects, in which we felt like we were able to accomplish, and make measurable steps forward with the talent on our major-league club,\u201d Getz said. \u201cWe felt like we were able to accomplish, not only adding wins to our major-league club, but also maintaining prospect depth.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
