{"id":98062,"date":"2025-07-28T00:44:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T00:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/98062\/"},"modified":"2025-07-28T00:44:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T00:44:14","slug":"cluster-of-legionnaires-disease-cases-found-in-nyc-as-health-officials-on-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/98062\/","title":{"rendered":"Cluster of Legionnaire&#8217;s disease cases found in NYC as health officials on alert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The city health department has launched an investigation after a cluster of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/legionnaires-disease\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Legionnaire\u2019s disease<\/a> cases were identified in Harlem over the weekend \u2014 with officials urging New Yorkers to take precautions.<\/p>\n<p>Five cases of the potentially fatal pneumonia-like illness were diagnosed in the Manhattan neighborhood in recent days, although no deaths have been reported, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/about\/press\/pr2025\/nyc-health-investigating-legionnaires-disease-in-harlem.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the department said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny New Yorkers with flu-like symptoms should contact a health care provider as soon as possible,\u201d Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Toni Eyssallenne said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLegionnaire\u2019s disease can be effectively treated if diagnosed early,\u201d Eyssallenne said. \u201cBut New Yorkers at higher risk, like adults aged 50 and older, those who smoke or have chronic lung conditions should be especially mindful of their symptoms and seek care as soon as symptoms begin.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.47126437;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36660799\" width=\"868\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/legionella-pneumophila-bacteria-existing-potable-108851863.jpg\" alt=\"Scanning electron micrograph of Legionella pneumophila bacteria in potable water biofilm.\" class=\"wp-image-36660799\"  \/>Legionella pneumophila bacteria existing in potable water biofilms revealed in the scanning electron microscopic.
