{"id":980749,"date":"2026-08-04T20:05:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T20:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/980749\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T20:05:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T20:05:21","slug":"nyc-starts-slapping-giant-neon-green-shame-stickers-on-cars-running-afoul-of-parking-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/980749\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC starts slapping giant, neon-green &#8216;shame stickers&#8217; on cars running afoul of parking rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City officials on Tuesday began slapping giant, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/01\/us-news\/shame-stickers-for-bad-nyc-parkers-are-back-after-years-long-ban\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">neon-green \u201cshame stickers\u201d on the cars<\/a> of drivers who fail to follow alternate side parking rules.<\/p>\n<p>The 8.5 x 11-inch adhesives were brought back by Manhattan Council Member Gale Brewer, who sponsored a bill allowing street sweepers to stick it to scofflaw drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Video posted to social media showed Brewer gleefully anointing the first unlucky vehicles to be shamed on an Upper West Side street.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40186844\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/nyc-starts-slapping-giant-neon-136464645.jpg\" alt=\"A New York City Department of Sanitation worker applying a neon-green &quot;shame sticker&quot; to the window of a silver SUV.\" class=\"wp-image-40186844\"  \/>New York City has started placing giant, neon-green \u2018shame stickers\u2019 on cars running afoul of parking rules. DSNY<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis vehicle violates NYC parking regulations, as a result, this street could not be properly cleaned,\u201d the stickers state, according to the clip posted by a New York Times reporter.<\/p>\n<p>Brewer\u2019s bill \u2014 which repealed a decade-old ban on the practice \u2014 passed earlier this summer in a 41-10 vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The New York City Council banned these parking stickers of shame in 2012 and Gale Brewer sponsored a bill to bring them back. <br \/>Lots of drivers on this block on the Upper West Side didn\u2019t move their cars this morning and will return to a ticket and a bright green sticker. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WwXRpoG2eu\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/WwXRpoG2eu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Emma G. Fitzsimmons (@emmagf) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/emmagf\/status\/2084627521677427157?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">August 4, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani allowed the legislation, Intro-92, to go into effect after 30 days, declining to sign or veto it.<\/p>\n<p>But during an unrelated press conference Tuesday, he said he \u201cfully supported\u201d the measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is critically important that the Sanitation Department be able to conduct street cleaning,\u201d Hizzoner told reporters. \u201cWhenever I meet the hardworking members of DSNY, the question is always how we can make their jobs easier.
