Cyclospora cases climb in Douglas County as health officials link outbreak to iceberg lettuce<\/p>\n

The Douglas County Health Department reported that Cyclospora cases<\/a> continue to rise in the area.<\/p>\n

Officials said the number of confirmed cases is now at 71<\/a>, which is up from 45 last week.<\/p>\n

The health department also said their investigation strongly indicates that Douglas County’s cases are associated with the same national outbreak linked to contaminated iceberg lettuce.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week<\/a>, health officials reported two people in Michigan have died in connection with the outbreak of cyclosporiasis.<\/p>\n

They are the first known deaths related to the multi-state outbreak of explosive diarrhea in the United States.<\/p>\n

The CDC has identified more than 18,000 cases of domestic cyclosporiasis this season; 6,707 cases are confirmed, and about 11,500 others are undergoing further laboratory testing and analysis to determine whether the illness was acquired in the U.S.<\/p>\n
