Castro says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>DILLEY, Texas<\/strong> \u2013 A Churchill High School student and her father <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/07\/30\/16-year-old-girl-detained-by-ice-on-way-to-church-joaquin-castro-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/07\/30\/16-year-old-girl-detained-by-ice-on-way-to-church-joaquin-castro-says\/\">were released<\/a> from the Dilley South Texas Family Residential Center, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Emely Charloth Suaza Chambo, 16, was detained on July 12, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cI am glad that she is back with her mom, little brothers and the rest of her family,\u201d Castro said in the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/07\/28\/watch-live-2-pm-members-of-congress-pediatrician-urges-closure-of-ice-facility-in-dilley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Castro\u2019s visit<\/a> to the ICE facility in Dilley on July 28, he spoke with Chambo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Chambo and a friend were on their way to a San Antonio church before an ICE agent detained them both, according to Castro. However, Chambo was the only one taken to a local immigration processing center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Castro said ICE told her father, Fernando Suaza Ortiz, to pick her up or she would be sent out of state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">When the father showed up, he was also detained, Castro said.
