What could be more tiki than that?

On Thursday, August 27, Three Dots and a Dash is emerging from its subterranean River North home base to partner with Shoreline Sightseeing for a 90-minute cocktail cruise departing from Navy Pier at 7:30pm. The floating happy hour will offer a lineup of the bar’s signature tropical cocktails, as well as light bites, music and sunset views of Chicago’s skyline.

For cocktail lovers, it’s an opportunity to experience one of the city’s best bars in an entirely new light (literally).

RECOMMENDED: The Chicago Air and Water show will look different this year—here’s what’s changing

Since opening in 2013, Three Dots and a Dash has helped redefine tiki culture in America. Named after the Morse code sequence for the letter “V” (the victory symbol during World War II), the subterranean bar has become a destination for tiki fanatics as well as casual fans who enjoy a flaming drink, elaborate garnishes and Polynesian-inspired vibes.

But underpinning the playful presentation is one of the country’s most respected beverage programs. The bar has earned multiple nominations from the James Beard Foundation, regularly appears on lists of North America’s best bars and has been recognized by Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards, among the industry’s highest honors.

That reputation makes the collaboration with Shoreline Sightseeing especially exciting. Rather than simply pouring drinks aboard a boat, Three Dots is bringing internationally recognized craftsmanship to the typical booze cruise, allowing guests to sip expertly balanced rum cocktails while feeling the gentle breeze on their faces.

Tickets cost $62 per person and include the 90-minute cruise, curated cocktail tastings and light bites. Given Three Dots and a Dash’s devoted following—and Shoreline Sightseeing’s popular lineup of themed cruises—it’s likely to sell out well before boarding begins.

Chicago has no shortage of ways to enjoy summer on the water, from architecture tours to fireworks cruises. But this may be the only one where one of the world’s best cocktail bars is doing the pouring.

The cruise departs from Navy Pier on Thursday, August 27, at 7:30pm.
