CLEVELAND \u2014 Name tags might have been appropriate within the Mets clubhouse Tuesday, a day after president of baseball operations David Stearns finished his trade deadline sell-off.<\/p>\n
The anonymous new Mets included Nate Lavender, Jefry Yan and Chayse McDermott. More familiar \u2014 yet largely forgotten \u2014 names such as Dedniel N\u00fa\u00f1ez and Cristian Pache also arrived.<\/p>\n
Life after Luke Weaver, Huascar Brazob\u00e1n and Brooks Raley, to name a few, wasn\u2019t so bad for the Mets on this night, who received three home runs and strong work from one of the bullpen newcomers in a 6-2 victory over the Guardians at Progressive Field.<\/p>\n
Luis Torrens, Bo Bichette and Carson Benge all went deep to help the Mets end a three-game losing streak.<\/p>\n
Lavender, in his major league debut, pitched 1 \u00b9\/\u2083 scoreless innings to resume where Raley and A.J. Minter \u2014 the two lefty relievers traded by the Mets in recent days \u2014 left off.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a long journey,\u201d said Lavender, a 26-year-old who was drafted by the team in 2021 and departed through the Rule 5 draft before undergoing Tommy John surgery with the Rays and returning to the Mets.<\/p>\n
Interim manager Andy Green summoned Lavender in the seventh with the tying run at the plate. Lavender struck out Travis Bazzana to end the inning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what really energizes a group of guys is having a guy make a debut, come in and get a huge out in a tough situation against a very good hitter and then go out there and throw really well the next inning,\u201d Green said. \u201cI thought the dugout was as alive in that Nate Lavender punch-out as it\u2019s been in some time and I think that hopefully is a catalyst to bring some energy with these new guys we have got here.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw a bunch of guys in different roles that are pitching in tough situations. They did a great job, so I think everybody took some juice from that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new-look bullpen included Kodai Senga shifted from long relief to pitching the ninth. The right-hander worked a scoreless inning.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Mets received a third straight solid outing from Sean Manaea, but the left-hander lived dangerously: he allowed seven hits and five walks, yielding two runs over six innings with seven strikeouts. It was Manaea\u2019s third straight start pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs or fewer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey put the pressure on early and often and to be able to navigate it like that was a lot of fun,\u201d Manaea said. \u201cThat\u2019s everything I have always dreamed of \u2014 just to be able to go out there and pitch and navigate a lineup like that. I was just really proud of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Torrens blasted a three-run homer in the second inning to get the Mets started. The homer was the third season for Torrens, whose playing time behind the plate has increased, sliding Francisco Alvarez into an occasional DH role. Alvarez started at DH on this night.<\/p>\n
Bichette homered on the first pitch of the third inning to extend the Mets\u2019 lead to 4-0. Bichette\u2019s blast was his 11th this season.<\/p>\n
After the Guardians scored a run on Angel Martinez\u2019s RBI double in the third, the Mets countered in the fourth. They took a 5-1 lead on Torrens\u2019 RBI single after Marcus Semien had walked leading off the inning and advanced to second on a groundout.<\/p>\n

Manaea surrendered an RBI single to Bazzana in the fifth that sliced the Mets\u2019 lead to 5-2. Manaea allowed a walk and single before Bazzana delivered.<\/p>\n
Benge smashed a 451-foot homer to center field in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 6-2 lead. The homer was Benge\u2019s 12th this season.<\/p>\n
Green said bench coach Kai Correa, a former Guardians coach, doubted that Benge\u2019s ball be a homer based on the area of the ballpark to which it was hit.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it when Kai\u2019s wrong, because it doesn\u2019t happen often,\u201d Green said. \u201cThat was a fun one to talk about.
