{"id":981610,"date":"2026-08-05T04:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T04:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/981610\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T04:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T04:58:16","slug":"stock-market-today-live-updates-261","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/981610\/","title":{"rendered":"Stock market today: Live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., August 4, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Jeenah Moon | Reuters<\/p>\n<p>Futures linked to the S&amp;P 500 were little changed on Tuesday evening following the second day of a huge rally across the major indices that saw the broad market index close at a record high.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow futures<\/a> were up 90 points, or 0.2%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> added 0.1%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq-100 futures<\/a> were down 0.2%.<\/p>\n<p>In Asia, South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a> led gains, rising over 4%, while the small-cap Kosdaq advanced 2%. Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> rose 3.1%, and the Topix added 1.57%. Australia&#8217;s benchmark\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was 0.13% higher. Hong Kong&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng Index<\/a> slid 0.4%, while mainland China&#8217;s CSI 300 was little changed.<\/p>\n<p>In U.S. after-hours trading, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SPCX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a> lost almost 7% after Elon Musk&#8217;s company said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/spacex-spcx-earnings-live-updates-q2-2026.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">capital expenditures climbed<\/a> to $18.4 billion in the second quarter. Chip giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a> dropped 8% after posting adjusted earnings that only came slightly ahead of the Street&#8217;s estimates.<\/p>\n<p>Markets jumped Tuesday, lifted by solid earnings and comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that the U.S. and Iran could be closing in on a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> rose 1.8% to close above 7,700 for the first time, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow<\/a> gained more than 900 points for another record close.<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices fell, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate crude<\/a> futures dropping by 5.7% to settle at $75.77 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/CAT\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Caterpillar<\/a>, which reported earnings Tuesday and had a blowout quarter due to the ongoing artificial intelligence buildout, also boosted the equity rally.\u00a0Shares rose more than 5%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/PLTR\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Palantir Technologies<\/a> popped almost 30% on the heels of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/04\/palantir-2q-earnings-ai-sovereign-tools.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quarterly results<\/a> CEO Alex Karp called &#8220;otherworldly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The only thing that really mattered was the question on ROI driving earnings higher and the question of whether or not earnings are in a bubble \u2013 and the answer is no,&#8221; Alicia Levine, chief investment officer at BNY Wealth, told CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainment heavy-hitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DIS\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney<\/a> is slated to report on Wednesday morning. Results are also due for ride-sharing giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/UBER\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Uber<\/a> and pharmaceutical company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/LLY\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eli Lilly<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ELF\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">E.l.f Beauty<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/DASH\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DoorDash<\/a> will share quarterly reports in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic front, traders will be watching for ADP&#8217;s private payrolls report for July, out Wednesday morning. The Dow Jones consensus estimate anticipates private employers added 75,000 jobs last month.
