Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce recently donated<\/a> $26 million dollars to a variety of charities ahead of their July 3 wedding, including New York Cares<\/a>, the largest volunteer organization in New York City.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In honor of this support, the nonprofit hosted a Swiftie-themed volunteer event on July 31, encouraging fans of the global artist to give back to their community, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New York Cares invited Swifties to P.S. 20M to help pack 2,200 backpacks with school supplies for local students as the start of their annual Stand with Students<\/a> campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New York Cares volunteer Yvette Adams explained, \u201cAs a teacher, I see firsthand how something as simple as a backpack filled with school supplies can make a real difference for students and families.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

There will be more backpacking packing events throughout Sept., and they aim to distribute 26,400 backpacks and raise $1 million dollars throughout the remainder of the campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Swiftie event featured the artist\u2019s music, friendship bracelet trading, \u201cJUST&T MARRIED!\u201d pins for each volunteer and exclusive t-shirts for those who made additional onsite donations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to New York Cares, Swift\u2019s donation has inspired more than 700 Swifties to donate over $20,000 to the organization, highlighting how one star\u2019s contribution can spark an increase in new volunteers and donors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sapreet Saluja, executive director of New York Cares, explained, \u201cThose fans chose the cause and became the effect, proving that one act of generosity can inspire hundreds more and create lasting impact for our city.\u201d<\/p>\n
