The fate of a fire chief that oversees parts of Northwest Bexar County rests in the hands of the Bexar County Emergency Services District 4 board members.<\/p>\n
The board is now out of closed session and everyone who came to the meeting to learn the future of Chief Craig Ramon\u2019s employment is leaving with no answers. The board came out of the closed session and did not address the allegations against the fire chief, but his wife says he has already resigned.<\/p>\n
Chief Ramon\u2019s resignation comes one week after several firefighters spoke up expressing that they were tired and overworked due to understaffing.<\/p>\n
The firefighters said they were working excessive overtime, and that was affecting the safety of the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s necessary that we acknowledge the operation failures that have occurred under Chief Ramon as our fire chief,\u201d Regan Dominguez said. \u201cWe are faced with multiple individuals leaving the department. These individuals are experienced. They’ve been driven into the ground non-stop every shift. it’s not because they are running calls. It\u2019s not because we are saving lives, doing all the cool stuff that we signed up to do. It is because we are mentally and sometimes physically drained.”<\/p>\n
Steve Yeager who fired Chief Ramon disagrees. He urged the board not to accept Chief Ramon\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you get a resignation from our chief, I ask you to consider whether or not you’re going to accept it,\u201d Yeager said. \u201cBecause I don\u2019t think you should. I think he deserves this job. I offered him this job. You all agreed. You said go get a degree and you can have it and he did.\u201d<\/p>\n
