Reformed literary wild child Cat Marnell is blurring the line between fact and fiction in her new novel \u2014 and sprinkling in plenty of real downtown fixtures and Page Six references.<\/p>\n
The \u201cHow to Murder Your Life\u201d author\u2019s upcoming \u201cThe Bored and the Beautiful,\u201d focuses on a character named Dizzy who sounds a lot like the glamorous beauty editor who became famous when she flamed out of her job at Jane Pratt\u2019s xoJane to go on a bender.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s half real names and people, half fictional names,\u201d Marnell tells us \u2014 naming off numerous New York personalities like actress and fashion plate Julia Fox, rapper Riff Raff, former \u201cThe Real Housewives of New York City\u201d star Leah McSweeney, and influencer the Fat Jew \u2014 saying \u201call appear as themselves, while Dizzy\u2019s boyfriends have fictional names.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dizzy is described as a \u201cdowntown writer with a tabloid presence,\u201d who \u201cpops amphetamine pills like Tic Tacs, drifting between Thai rehabs,\u201d much like Marnell, who first appeared in Page Six in 2012 when she defiantly told us: \u00a0\u201cI\u2019m always on drugs. Look, I couldn\u2019t spend another summer meeting deadlines behind a computer at night when I could be on the rooftop of Le Bain looking for shooting stars and smoking angel dust with my friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marnell\u2019s novel starts that same year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a period piece,\u201d she told us. \u201cWriting people from that period in my life came naturally to me. They were all part of the tapestry of downtown in 2012.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cPage Six is in the book a lot,\u201d Marnell added.<\/p>\n

Marnell first made a name for herself as a beauty editor for Conde Nast\u2019s now defunct Lucky magazine and has since written for Vice, Self, Nylon, and Glamour. This is Marnell\u2019s second book following\u00a02016\u2019s hit addiction memoir \u201cHow to Murder Your Life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The author previously told us \u201cMy memoir reads like an afternoon tea with grandma by comparison.\u201d <\/p>\n
