{"id":983348,"date":"2026-08-05T23:48:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T23:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/983348\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T23:48:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T23:48:17","slug":"celtics-sign-dillon-mitchell-to-two-way-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/983348\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics Sign Dillon Mitchell To Two-Way Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Celtics<\/strong> have signed rookie forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mitchdi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-05_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dillon Mitchell<\/a><\/strong> to a two-way contract, the team announced on Wednesday (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/celtics\/status\/2085135562579808444?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Dillon-Mitchell-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-486540\"  \/>The extremely athletic 6\u20198\u2033 forward was the 40th pick in the 2026 draft and proceeded to average 13.0 points, 2.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game for the Celtics in Summer League while hitting 37.5% of his limited three-point attempts.<\/p>\n<p>A defensive standout who earned a spot on the Big East\u2019s All-Defensive team as a senior, Mitchell never averaged more than 9.9 points per game in any of his four college seasons, so it remains to be seen how much he\u2019ll contribute offensively at the NBA level.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the Celtics have had success with similar types of players in recent years, including the recently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/celtics-jordan-walsh-agree-to-three-year-extension.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">extended<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/walshjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-05_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jordan Walsh<\/a><\/strong> and 2025 rookie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gonzahu01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-05_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hugo Gonzalez<\/a><\/strong>, who had an impressive start to his NBA career last season.<\/p>\n<p>One of the few remaining <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/2026-nba-draft-pick-signings.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">unsigned rookies<\/a>, Mitchell was reported to be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/08\/return-to-st-johns-in-play-for-dillon-mitchell.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">considering a return<\/a> to St. John\u2019s after a federal court ruling granted him and other seniors from his class a fifth year of eligibility.
