PHOENIX \u2014 A woman was released from police custody after allegedly shooting and killing her boyfriend on Monday, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Tony Garcia, 46, was identified as the man who died in the shooting, according to the Phoenix Police Department.<\/p>\n

At 1:30 a.m., officers were called out near the area of 23rd Avenue and Butler Drive<\/a> about a shooting.<\/p>\n

As officers arrived, they found Garcia suffering from a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Fire officials took Garcia to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.<\/p>\n

Police detained a woman at the home who said Garcia was her boyfriend, police said.<\/p>\n

After detectives completed an investigation, they learned there was an assault that led to the shooting.<\/p>\n

Police released the woman from custody pending the outcome of the investigation after working with the Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
