Seth Lugo will remain in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The right-hander and the Royals are finalizing a multi-year contract extension, according to multiple reports on Sunday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The new deal is expected to be a deal worth about $46 million over two years and includes a vesting option with Kansas City, The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman reported.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

No confirmation has officially come from the club, but the news ends speculation that Lugo could have been moved at the trade deadline, which is quickly approaching this Thursday at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The former Met had originally signed with Kansas City a three-year, $45 million contract that included a player option after this season, which many people believed Lugo would take advantage of.<\/p>\n

However, it became clearer that the Royals wanted to not only keep Lugo through the deadline but extend him to keep him in Kansas City for a while.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As recently as Sunday morning, USA Today reported that the Royals didn\u2019t have much interest in trading Lugo and were looking to ink him to an extension.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lugo has been one of the Royals\u2019 top starters since he signed with the ballclub as a free agent in 2023 and finished second in American League Cy Young Award voting in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lugo has recorded a 3.60 ERA or lower for the past five seasons of his big league career has posted a 2.95 ERA this season in 113 innings pitched.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Royals right-hander has a 7-5 record in 19 starts and 99 strikeouts to his name.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kansas City is the third team Lugo has played for in the course of his major league career.<\/p>\n

Lugo played seven seasons for the Mets after being selected 34th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft, pitching more than 490 innings before leaving as a free agent and signing with the Padres on Dec. 22, 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n
