{"id":984583,"date":"2026-08-06T13:22:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T13:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/984583\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T13:22:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T13:22:19","slug":"fwisd-reviews-coach-over-gay-teen-drag-queen-novel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/984583\/","title":{"rendered":"FWISD Reviews Coach Over Gay Teen Drag Queen Novel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                                    Michael \u201cChip\u201d Haro is pictured alongside the Amazon listing for Life Lessons from a Teenage Gay Icon. | Images via Paschal High School Athletics and Amazon; compilation by DX.                                <\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth ISD says it is reviewing the matter after a Paschal High School parent raised concerns about public profiles linking English teacher and soccer coach Michael \u201cChip\u201d Haro to a young adult novel centered on a gay teenage drag queen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>The district is reviewing the matter<\/strong>,\u201d Fort Worth ISD Communications told The Dallas Express on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas Express asked Fort Worth ISD whether Haro wrote Life Lessons from a Teenage Gay Icon, whether Paschal selected him to lead the girls soccer program for the 2026-27 school year and whether any district classroom, library, athletic program or activity had assigned, purchased, stocked, promoted or discussed the book.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"316\" data-end=\"657\">The Dallas Express contacted Haro multiple times at his Fort Worth ISD email and asked whether he authored the book, whether he had introduced it to district students, whether he planned to use it or its themes with the soccer team and how he responded to the parent\u2019s concerns and a State Board of Education member\u2019s call for his removal.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"662\" data-end=\"702\" data-is-last-node=\"\"><strong>Haro did not respond before publication.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public profiles connect coach and author<\/p>\n<p>A Paschal soccer account <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DavovVzGeJU\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> Haro as the school\u2019s new head women\u2019s soccer coach in a social media graphic that described him as a longtime educator and coach. Paschal\u2019s official athletics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwpaschalpanthers.com\/Staff\/Bio\/19069\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">biography<\/a>, however, still lists Haro as an assistant varsity coach and JV White team coach and states that he has taught in Fort Worth ISD for 21 years. The author biography says Chip Haro lives in Fort Worth and works as a high school English teacher and soccer coach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/social_image_chip_pride.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-330614\" class=\"wp-image-330614 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/social_image_chip_pride-515x343.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"343\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-330614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A 2021 public social media post under the name Chip Haro used a frame reading, \u201cHappy Pride Month \u2014 The Fight Continues.\u201d The profile photograph appears to show the same man pictured on Paschal High School\u2019s athletics page. | Images via social media and Paschal High School Athletics; compilation by DX.<\/p>\n<p>Taken together, the matching name, city, occupations and photographs strongly indicate that Paschal teacher and coach Michael \u201cChip\u201d Haro authored the book. Fort Worth ISD did not confirm the authorship before publication.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon describes the novel as following Jackie, a gay teenager who calls himself a \u201cTeenage Gay Icon\u201d and hopes to audition for \u201cDrag Quest,\u201d and his sister Virginia, who struggles with anxiety and panic attacks. After learning Jackie has little time left, the siblings take a cross-country trip to New York City as he attempts to repair their relationship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-330130 alignleft\" style=\"text-align: center;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Copy-of-X-@Carlos__Turcios-515x283.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"283\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parent raises concerns<\/p>\n<p>A parent who said their child attends Paschal contacted The Dallas Express after seeing the coaching announcement. The Dallas Express granted anonymity because the parent said identification could create consequences for the child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am writing out of concern for my kid and others. While I want to remain anonymous to avoid consequences for my child, I would like to express my profound concern regarding this pick for head coach and the potential for gender indoctrination on the team,\u201d the parent told The Dallas Express.<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas Express found no evidence that the book had been assigned, purchased, stocked, promoted or used in a Fort Worth ISD classroom, library, athletic program or district activity.<\/p>\n<p>SBOE member calls for removal<\/p>\n<p>State Board of Education member <a href=\"https:\/\/sboe.texas.gov\/state-board-of-education\/sboe-board-members\/sboe-member-district-11\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brandon Hall<\/a> (R-District 11) said the reports, if accurate, should prompt Haro\u2019s removal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the reports that a Fort Worth ISD employee authored the book in question are accurate, they should be removed from their position expeditiously. Anyone who would target impressionable youth with inappropriate drag queen propaganda guised as a children\u2019s book should not be allowed to work in K-12 education,\u201d Hall told The Dallas Express.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon lists the novel in its Teen &amp; Young Adult LGBTQ+ Issues category. The Dallas Express found no evidence that Haro assigned, promoted, distributed or discussed the book with Fort Worth ISD students.<\/p>\n<p>The inquiry comes as Texas school districts implement <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/tlodocs\/89R\/billtext\/html\/SB00012F.HTM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 12<\/a>, which took effect September 1, 2025. The law generally prohibits public school districts and their employees from providing instruction, guidance, activities or programming regarding sexual orientation or gender identity to students in prekindergarten through 12th grade, subject to limited exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/education\/are-texas-school-districts-removing-dei-to-comply-with-sb12\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> by The Dallas Express, districts across Texas have reviewed policies and programs for compliance with the law.
