Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is subject to interest from Liverpool, and while a deal could prove difficult, the Toon reportedly identify alternatives to the Swede.<\/p>\n

Newcastle United<\/strong><\/a> have reportedly identified three potential replacements for Alexander Isak<\/strong><\/a>, including Chelsea<\/strong><\/a> striker\u00a0Nicolas Jackson<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Swedish striker has been subject of significant interest this summer transfer window<\/a> from Liverpool<\/strong><\/a>, who are said to be willing to spend a record fee.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/strong><\/a> has already welcomed number nine Hugo Ekitike<\/strong><\/a> to Anfield, with the forward joining for an initial \u00a369m from Eintracht Frankfurt.<\/p>\n

Despite also signing Florian Wirtz<\/strong><\/a> for a fee that could rise to \u00a3116m, the Reds have seemingly not been put off by Newcastle’s reported \u00a3150m demands.<\/p>\n

The Toon are now said to be in the market for alternatives to Isak in a boost to Liverpool, with talkSPORT<\/a> claiming Chelsea’s Jackson, Aston Villa<\/strong><\/a>‘s Ollie Watkins<\/strong><\/a> and RB Leipzig<\/strong><\/a>‘s Benjamin Sesko<\/strong><\/a> are targets for the Magpies.<\/p>\n

Why do Liverpool want Isak at Anfield?<\/p>\n

Isak could be viewed by the Liverpool hierarchy as a similar signing to Virgil van Dijk<\/strong><\/a>, who was brought to the club in January 2018.<\/p>\n

The Reds were at the time ridiculed by many rival fans for spending \u00a375m on a centre-back, but the Dutchman has arguably been the club’s most transformative figure of post-Steven Gerrard<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season, Isak ranked as the division’s second top scorer, with only Mohamed Salah<\/strong><\/a> (29) finding the back of the net more often in 2024-25.<\/p>\n

Salah is now 33 and while his performance levels have not dipped as he has aged, the Merseysiders will have to prepare for life without their talisman sooner rather than later, and Isak could help secure the future of Liverpool’s forward line.<\/p>\n

How would Isak fit in Slot’s team alongside Ekitike?<\/p>\n

If Isak is signed for a fee in excess of \u00a3100m, than he can be pencilled in to start in his favoured striker role despite competition from Ekitike.<\/p>\n

The latter may not have signed for Liverpool had he not been promised regular playing time, but perhaps he will have to settle for a role on the left of attack.<\/p>\n

Winger Luis Diaz<\/strong><\/a>‘s transfer to Bayern Munich is nearing completion<\/a> following the news that a deal had been agreed between the Reds and the Germans, and his absence would leave a starting spot open.<\/p>\n

There is a chance that Slot could change his system to accommodate two strikers, though it is difficult to see the Dutchman deviating from the 4-2-3-1 formation that won him the Premier League title in 2024-25.<\/p>\n
