This summer\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/byrambo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bowen Byram<\/a><\/strong> trade suggested Chicago\u2019s hockey operations department understands the importance of acquiring quality NHL players who also happen to be young, and it seems there could be more deals of that nature to come either during the regular season or in the next offseason.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7487005\/2026\/08\/06\/blackhawks-bowen-byram-highlights-prospects\/?smid=ta-ios-share&amp;source=emp_shared_article&amp;smid=ta-ios-share\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Scott Powers of The Athletic wrote today<\/a> that he would \u201cbe surprised if the Blackhawks don\u2019t trade at least two [of their three 2027 first-round picks] to help improve their NHL roster.\u201d Two first-round picks can be the centerpiece of a trade for a major core piece, though it does ultimately depend on where those picks ultimately end up in the order. Last summer, the Montreal Canadiens were able to acquire a young top-pairing defenseman in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dobsono01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Noah Dobson<\/strong><\/a> for an asset package centered around two first-rounders in the middle of the selection order. In June, the St. Louis Blues were able to add a young, cost-controlled center in<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mctavma01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mason McTavish<\/a><\/strong> for two first rounders \u2013 No. 15 and No. 29. A deal of that sort could be what Chicago looks to do in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>Other notes from around the hockey world:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"longlis\">\n<li>Former San Jose Sharks prospect <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockeydb.com\/ihdb\/stats\/pdisplay.php?pid=217621\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Linus Oberg<\/a><\/strong> has decided to transfer from the SHL, where he has spent his entire pro career thus far, to Finland\u2019s Liiga. The 26-year-old forward has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/kiekko-espoo.fi\/uutiset\/linus-oberg-siniverisiin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">signed a deal<\/a> with Finnish club Kiekko-Espoo. Oberg was a seventh-round pick of the Sharks in 2020 and has nearly 350 games played in the SHL. Last year, he scored 13 goals and 18 points in 52 regular-season games for the SHL\u2019s Malmo Redhawks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/ozhigig01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.prohockeyrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-08-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Igor Ozhiganov<\/strong><\/a>, a defenseman who was a member of the 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs, has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.khl.ru\/news\/2026\/08\/06\/563978.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">signed a contract extension<\/a> to remain with Dynamo Moscow of the KHL. The 6\u20192\u2033, 209-pound right-shot defenseman has been with Dynamo since 2023. A two-time KHL All-Star, Ozhiganov has served as Dynamo\u2019s captain for the last two years.
