\n\tStassi Schroeder<\/a> just had the craziest week of her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHer new reality show, House of Stassi<\/a>, dropped on Hulu<\/a> last Thursday, a day after debuting its first two episodes on Freeform<\/a> July 29. It quickly shot to the No. 1 spot on the streamer\u2019s TV chart, alongside a No. 2 debut across TV and film; House of Stassi has remained in the top six spots on Hulu\u2019s daily TV ranking over its first week of release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat is a core memory I will never forget,\u201d Schroeder tells The Hollywood Reporter of learning her show\u2019s debut stats. \u201cI freaked out with my team and [husband] Beau [Clark] and everyone. We sat there crying\u2026 I\u2019m just so thankful.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBreaking out of her role as a reality TV<\/a> \u201cIt\u201d girl after eight starring seasons on Bravo<\/a>\u2018s Vanderpump Rules<\/a>, Schroeder now slips into a executive producer role for House of Stassi. The show, like fellow unscripted Hulu hit The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives<\/a>, does not shy away from acknowledging the optics that they\u2019re filming for a reality show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBreaking the fourth wall was important to Schroeder because \u201cwe set out to make the realest possible show we could.\u201d She adds, \u201cIf we didn\u2019t acknowledge that we are filming a show, there\u2019s automatically a layer of fakeness.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBack when I was on Bravo, we weren\u2019t allowed to do that, so we had it in our heads to just pretend that\u2019s not what was happening,\u201d Schroeder explains. \u201cAnd to me, that doesn\u2019t make the realest show that you can.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Vanderpump star says no one from her former Bravo family has congratulated her on House of Stassi\u2019s success, except for Tom Schwartz. \u201cI don\u2019t expect it from anyone. I think that we\u2019re like opposing teams. That\u2019s what it kind of feels like, and that doesn\u2019t bother me at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHouse of Stassi\u2019s road to Freeform and Hulu was long. Her pitch for the series centered around her and her castmates bearing all for the cameras, heightened by her added expertise of the genre. \u201cI kept saying, \u2018You don\u2019t understand; I know reality TV, and I will bleed out for this. And you\u2019re gonna see dynamics that we normally don\u2019t get to see represented on TV,\u2019\u201d Schroeder says.<\/p>\n

\n\tTo prove her point, she cites her marriage to Beau Clark, and \u201cthe fact that our gender roles are kind of reversed.\u201d Schroeder is the booked and busy breadwinner, and, in season one, Clark opens up about feeling stuck at home running their household. She also notes the relationship between her dear friend Taylor Strecker and her wife Taylor \u201cTeddy\u201d Donohue, who was pregnant during filming with their first child.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show was announced<\/a> in August 2024, alongside news that Schroeder would reunite onscreen with her Vanderpump Rules boss Lisa Vanderpump<\/a> for season two of Vanderpump Villa<\/a>. She had already pitched her series to Hulu before boarding Villa, she says, when the idea of the crossover was raised. But in order for Schroeder to sign onto Vanderpump Villa, she had conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I said I would do Villa, I was like, \u2018Listen, if I\u2019m gonna do Villa, you have to greenlight my show.\u2019 [They said,] \u2018We can\u2019t do that just yet.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Fine, then you\u2019re gonna have a press release about it,\u2019\u201d she explains. \u201cEveryone thought I was insane, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Trust, if we just release a press release, it will get so much buzz that it\u2019ll force this along a little bit more.\u2019 And it worked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHulu was where Schroeder wanted House of Stassi to land. \u201cWe put so much hope into it landing at Hulu, even though I still had to pitch everywhere else. I\u2019ve learned a lot during this process; that\u2019s just etiquette in terms of pitching shows,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\n\tSchroeder\u2019s pitch always included her being an EP, which she says \u201cwas the hardest part\u201d of the process, that of \u201cactually finding a production company that wanted to work with us that was willing to let me be a producer. Most everyone but one said no.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBut someone said yes, and secured that deal: The show is produced by Scout Productions and Belcheri Productions, with Schroeder\u2019s former Vanderump Rules EPs Erin Foye and Jenna Rosenfeld carrying that title over to House of Stassi, alongside Schroeder herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tVanity credits aren\u2019t uncommon for budding talent (the cast of Mormon Wives were upped to EPs for their fourth season). But Schroeder more than holds the IMDb credit\u00a0when it comes to her producing House of Stassi; she has her hand in all aspects of the show. However, she says she \u201ctook my producer hat off as much as possible during filming\u201d to ensure a fair process for her cast.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t think I even knew back when we started [House of Stassi] how much I would be involved in the process,\u201d she says. \u201cI made sure to tell the rest of the cast on day one, \u2018Just because I\u2019ve been your leader and I\u2019m having those talks [in my role as an EP], right now, as of today, I\u2019m your cast member, co-star, friend. I won\u2019t know about your storylines. I won\u2019t know what you\u2019re filming, because that\u2019s not fair.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHouse of Stassi has prompted much online chatter, and Schroeder has seen it all.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe rush of having everyone be like, \u2018We\u2019re obsessed.\u2019 \u2018This is something so new and different,\u2019 and \u2018This is a new category of reality TV;\u2019 the fact that everyone is watching and then talking about it, I feel so satisfied and blessed,\u201d she says. \u201cBut it\u2019s also been a rough week, because I forgot what it was like to be out there and have so many opinions. It\u2019s crazy to have a week that is the best week of your life also be a hard one.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSchroeder says that now, with House of Stassi released to the world, \u201cI forgot how polarizing I was.\u201d She explains, \u201cPeople really either want to be against me or be for me, and I\u2019m a bigger fan of the gray area.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThen come the think pieces and critiques of the dynamics in Schroeder and Clark\u2019s marriage, specifically following House of Stassi\u2019s finale dinner party that went awry. Their close friends tried to raise concerns about their marriage, they deemed it an \u201cintervention\u201d of sorts, but it ended in a disastrous fight between the married couple.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSchroeder admits it\u2019s not surprising that the conflict prompted discussion, \u201cbecause we were both so vulnerable and didn\u2019t hold back and showed real married couple things and issues.\u201d She says she and Clark have \u201chad a million conversations since then, and that\u2019s something that we continue to work on.\u201d However, she\u2019s not pleased with how her friends approached the conversation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI still think that all my friends handled that incorrectly,\u201d she says. \u201cThat\u2019s not something you bring up to a person at a big Christmas holiday dinner party, that\u2019s something that you guys come to me directly and say. And I will have it out with them, [with a potential] season two.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u2018My sadness really outweighed my producer head in that moment,\u201d she admits. \u201cThat was a really hard night for me. And while I knew that, everyone\u2019s just doing what I said and making good TV, it hurt more than I could appreciate it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tShe still wants to have more conversations about the so-called intervention. \u201cI can see everyone\u2019s point of view a teensy bit. The execution was absolute shit, and that is something that I need to talk to them about,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\n\tOutside of her discussion about her marriage, former Vanderpump Rules star Katie Maloney<\/a> revealed she experienced the early stages of an emotional affair in her marriage to co-star Tom Schwartz. Schroeder\u2019s sister Georgi Aubin and Clark\u2019s friend Rob Evors denied sleeping together in the season, but were caught on a hot mic talking about hooking up for months. \u201cI don\u2019t believe either of them right now,\u201d Schroeder says of them denying a romance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey keep saying, \u2018No, we were just we were messing with you guys,’\u201d Schroeder says of Aubin and Evors, \u201cAnd I\u2019m like\u2026 that\u2019s footage we found on your microphone. What do you mean you were just messing with us?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe reality star-EP says that\u2019s what she hopes an all-but-announced second season of House of Stassi will dive into, the lives of her inner circle. And she\u2019d love for the audience to see more of her life as a mom.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m bummed that a lot of the scenes with me, Beau and our kids really didn\u2019t make it in,\u201d she says. \u201cI see the criticism online of being like, \u2018Stassi\u2019s a bad mom\u2019 or whatever. I\u2019m like, \u2018You didn\u2019t even see me parent. You didn\u2019t even see a scene with me being a mom. So how could you even say that?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA House of Stassi season two renewal won\u2019t prohibit her from returning to Villa, if she has it her way \u2014 \u201cI really love doing Vanderpump Villa. \u2026\u00a0 I love the staff, I love Lisa; that is a dream job,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy hopes for the future is that we can continue to do this, evolve, show more stories that people want, have conversations and debates about [the show]. Like, that\u2019s the dream,\u201d she says. \u201cThe things that I\u2019ve learned is I guess I\u2019m not always right, and I need thicker skin sometimes.\u201d <\/p>\n
