In contrast, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<\/a> lost 53 points, or 0.1%. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/ABNB\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Airbnb<\/a> shares rallied over 8% in premarket trading after the vacation rental company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/06\/airbnb-abnb-q2-earningsreport.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posted a beat<\/a> on the top and bottom lines. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NET\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cloudflare<\/a> surged 16% in premarket after the cloud cybersecurity company issued a solid full year and current quarter outlook.<\/p>\n<p>Wall Street is coming off a losing session, as an increase in oil prices weighed on equities. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow<\/a> fell more than 460 points, or 0.9%, breaking a five-day winning run. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> slid 0.2%, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a> dipped 0.1%. <\/p>\n<p>Despite Thursday&#8217;s losses, stocks are headed for a second straight week of gains. The Nasdaq could post its best weekly performance since May, thanks to a bounce-back in chip stocks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SOXX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX)<\/a> is higher by more than 5% this week.   <\/p>\n<p>Oil prices ticked higher early Friday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate futures<\/a> for September delivery were 0.8% higher at $77.91, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent crude<\/a>, the international benchmark, rose 1.1% to $83.40.<\/p>\n<p>In Europe, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.STOXX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stoxx 600<\/a> was up 0.24% in morning trade, as Germany&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.GDAXI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DAX<\/a> advanced 0.48%, and the French CAC 40 rose 0.26%. The U.K.&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.FTSE\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a> was last seen 0.17% higher.<\/p>\n<p>In Asia, Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0closed 0.12%, while South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a> fell 0.60%. Australia&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> ended flat and mainland China&#8217;s CSI 300 closed 0.93% higher. <\/p>\n<p>In spite of the U.S. pullback, the market outlook has brightened on many parts of the Street this week. Investors are hopeful that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz will eventually bring down oil prices and curb inflation expectations. <\/p>\n<p>Tech has outperformed \u2014 with semiconductors rallying this week \u2014 after last month&#8217;s unwinding of the momentum trade convinced many the stock market got the reset it needed for the next leg higher. Strong earnings only add to the recent confidence. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s going to be a chase,&#8221; Tom Lee, head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, told CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/closing-bell\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Closing Bel<\/a>l&#8221; on Thursday. &#8220;I think that chase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/06\/tom-lees-bold-august-forecast-sp-500-going-to-8000.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">takes us towards 7,900, 8,000&#8243;<\/a> this month. <\/p>\n<p>Investors turn their attention to the jobs report Friday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/08\/06\/the-july-jobs-numbers-are-due-out-friday-heres-what-to-expect.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">July&#8217;s nonfarm payrolls<\/a> aren&#8217;t expected to show much improvement, with a gain of just 83,000, and the unemployment rate staying unchanged at 4.2%.
