{"id":987469,"date":"2026-08-07T20:22:43","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/987469\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T20:22:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T20:22:43","slug":"nyc-severe-thunderstorm-warnings-possible-what-to-know-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/987469\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC severe thunderstorm warnings possible: What to know \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An elevated threat for severe storms covers much of the tri-state area Friday afternoon and evening.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>On a scale from 1 (low) to 5 (high), there is a Level 2 threat for the New York City metro Area, lower Hudson Valley, and north and central New Jersey.\u00a0 The Level 2 threat extends all the way southwest to the Washington, D.C. area<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image_4fc60b.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>The main threat from Friday\u2019s storms will be damaging straight-line wind gusts 60 miles per hour or higher.\u00a0 There is a lower risk for flash flooding.\u00a0Tornadoes and hail are unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for all five boroughs as well as neighboring counties in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley until 9 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image_0c867d.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Storms could begin as early as mid-afternoon, during peak heating when temperatures are near 90 degrees.\u00a0 They will be isolated at first and become more numerous around dinner time through mid-evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> This is when the wind and flood threats peak.\u00a0 After 9 p.m. the activity will become weaker and more isolated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image_7551e3.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rain totals will be under an inch in most places, but isolated areas could pick up a quick 2 to 4 inches, maybe more.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The atmosphere is laden with moisture, so the strongest storms will drop heavy rain that adds up quickly.\u00a0 Fortunately, these storms will be on the move and training &#8212;
