I love to get out there and play with the boys. If you play bad, you play bad. If you play great, you play great. For this tournament, I concentrate more. I think that’s why I’ve done so well.”

Hein won the low gross for competitors dubbed freshmen (50-59) and sophomores (60-69) for the third time after beating 2022 winner Brian Williams of the Woodstock Golf Club in a three-hole aggregate playoff after the duo had tied for top honors with 4-over 76s. Hein tied for first in the overall low gross competition two other times (2022 and 2025), but lost in a match of cards to Williams in 2022 and Ed Flanagan in 2025.

Hein bested Williams by one stroke in the three-hole aggregate playoff that was contested on the par-4 10th, par-3 11th and par-4 18th on Thursday. Hein won the playoff by one stroke.

“After last year, they changed the format to be able to make sure that there was an opportunity for a playoff for the (low gross) championship,” Hein said. “Brian (Williams) is such a great person, as well as a great golfer, it was fun to be able to have a playoff with him and obviously it was wonderful to come out on top.”

Hein and Williams were the two low gross scorers for those who competed from Wiltwyck’s white tees (6,078 yards) in the freshmen and sophomore age groups. Wiltwyck Golf Club member Gary Spiegel finished third with a 77.

Onteora High graduate Jude Signore was awarded the Ulster County Senior Men’s Golf Championship college scholarship.

As much as Hein likes playing in the senior golf event, he is always mindful of the significance of the tournament for college-bound students like Signore.

“The best part of the whole event is obviously is that the money goes to a scholarship fund,” Hein said. “There’s a young person (who gets the award) in the room, so it’s not some sort of abstract thing. You’re able to see the young person you’re helping to send to college and that’s always wonderful.”

Other winners by age group were as follows:

Age 50-59: low gross, Williams (76) and low net, Fred McCoy (68).

Age 60-69: low gross, Hein (76) and low net, Wayne Schaeffer (65).

Age 70-74: low gross, John Lucarelli (80) and low net, Tom Jacobi (70).

Age 75 and over: low gross, Bill Reynolds (75) and low net, Rich Moscowitz (68).

KINGSTON, N.Y. — Bill Reynolds and Mike Hein continued their recent dominance in senior golf at the 74th…

[47
1430,1370,405,62,118480,67,132,68
post-987614","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-golf","tag-golf","tag-latest-headlines","tag-new-york","tag-sports","tag-ulster-county","tag-united-states","tag-unitedstates","tag-us
["GET
