The Pittsburgh Steelers have claimed TE Lance Mason off waivers, per Aaron Wilson via the league\u2019s transactions sheet.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Undrafted out of Wisconsin in April, Mason was previously on the Seattle Seahawks\u2019 roster. He was waived yesterday<\/a> in order to make room for FB Brock Lampe.<\/p>\n

Mason began his college career at Missouri State before transferring to Wisconsin for his final year. In 2025, he caught 30 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s shown us some things that maybe you didn\u2019t even see on film because he wasn\u2019t asked to do them\u2026with physicality and things like that,\u201d Badgers head coach Luke Fickell said<\/a> of Mason last September. \u201cI think he\u2019s in a really good place.\u201d<\/p>\n

His best statistical season came in 2024, recording 34 receptions for 590 yards and six touchdowns at Missouri State. Mason was named AP FCS All-American honorable mention for his season.<\/p>\n

He caught 56 passes for 800 yards and eight touchdowns during his three seasons at Missouri State.<\/p>\n

At his Pro Day, Mason measured in at 6030, 243 pounds with 31 3\/8-inch arms. He ran a 4.72 40-yard dash with a 32.5-inch vertical, a 9\u20193\u2033 broad jump, and put up 22 reps on the bench press. He\u2019s from Rockwall, Texas. Pre-draft scouting reports tabbed Mason as a sleeper who can block and catch.<\/p>\n

Entering Friday, the Steelers had no known injuries to their tight ends: Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Robert Tonyan, Jaheim Bell, JJ Galbreath, Lake McRee, and TE\/FB Riley Nowakowski. It\u2019s unclear if the team suffered an injury during today\u2019s practice or if the team is looking for better production from the bottom of its depth chart.<\/p>\n

Bell made a couple plays early in camp but has since gone quiet while Galbreath and McRee have done little in the passing game this summer.<\/p>\n

The team held a closed practice Friday<\/a>, making new injuries difficult to assess.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh will need to make a corresponding roster move to officially place Mason on the roster. That will be announced no later than tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The Steelers will hold their annual night practice Saturday at 6\/EST at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.<\/p>\n
