{"id":988203,"date":"2026-08-08T04:20:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/988203\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T04:20:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T04:20:17","slug":"east-dallas-businesses-push-through-oncor-construction-uncertainty-nbc-5-dallas-fort-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/988203\/","title":{"rendered":"East Dallas businesses push through Oncor construction uncertainty \u2013 NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some East Dallas businesses are urging their customers to keep finding them amid an Oncor electrical construction project that has closed parts of a busy street and cut off parking, businesses say.<\/p>\n<p>When you step inside Benny\u2019s Bagels, manager Zuzy Sanchez says a lot of faces are long-time regulars of an East Dallas staple for three decades near Skillman Street and La Vista Drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a community shop, so you know all the customers,\u201d Sanchez said.<\/p>\n<p>But for the last three weeks, Sanchez adds, customers&#8217; journey to get inside has been less than direct.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Customers) park far or just keep going around until they find a parking spot,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cIt\u2019s been kind of crazy around here, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What used to be streetside parking, overtaken now by Oncor construction equipment, including in front of Juju\u2019s Coffee, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/oncor-construction-skillman-hurts-dallas-coffee-22361936.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">owners called it a \u201clogistical nightmare\u201d to our partners at the Dallas Morning News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oncor says the work relates to the installation of \u201cunderground electrical facilities along La Vista Drive to improve the long-term reliability of electric service\u201d in what it calls a growing area of east Dallas. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOncor recognizes construction may create inconveniences for local businesses and customers, and we appreciate their patience as this work continues,\u201d spokesperson Roxana Rubio said.<\/p>\n<p>Oncor also has detour signs to help direct customers and says it is in regular contact with affected businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Drew Stephenson considers himself new to craft coffee and says he is intentional about supporting small businesses, especially after Juju\u2019s put out the call for help for customer support during construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a little more difficult [to get to], but I think, you know, putting in the effort of walking an extra block and park a little further away is something the customers have shown they really value,\u201d Stephenson said.<\/p>\n<p>Oncor says the work that started July 20 is expected to be completed in six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, they finish this faster,\u201d Sanchez said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Some East Dallas businesses are urging their customers to keep finding them amid an Oncor electrical construction project&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":988204,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[5135],"tags":[5229,1596,152312,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969],"class_list":["post-988203","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-america","tag-dallas","tag-oncor","tag-texas","tag-tx","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/117057973599555772","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/988203","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=988203"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/988203\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/988204"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=988203"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=988203"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=988203"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
