{"id":989080,"date":"2026-08-08T14:16:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T14:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/989080\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T14:16:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T14:16:15","slug":"keller-isd-board-moves-forward-with-837m-bond-election-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/989080\/","title":{"rendered":"Keller ISD board moves forward with $837M bond election plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"&quot;byline&quot;\">by Scott Nishimura, Fort Worth Report <br \/>August 8, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Editor\u2019s note: To learn more about how the transcript that informed this report was created, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/prezi.com\/p\/jruyx_qm2vgy\/cambridge-artificial-intelligencer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Artificial Intelligencer<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Keller ISD voters will consider an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kellerisd.net\/about-kisd\/bond\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$837 million bond program<\/a> Nov. 3, including repairs and renovations to school campuses, a middle school replacement, technology upgrade and natatorium improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Keller trustees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bGgkkrA-aZU\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">voted 5-1 at their July 23 meeting<\/a> to accept the recommendations of the district\u2019s Citizens Bond Advisory Committee for the bond program. The council\u2019s deadline to formally call the election is Aug. 17. Early voting would be Oct. 19-30.<\/p>\n<p>Voters approved the district\u2019s last bond program \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kellerisd.net\/about-kisd\/bond\/bond-2019\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$315 million<\/a> \u2014 in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The district will present the program to voters in four or five separate propositions, Cory Wilson, the Keller ISD superintendent, told trustees. One trustee said he couldn\u2019t support the program, questioning whether the district needs everything in it.<\/p>\n<p>The citizen\u2019s committee will monitor the bond program if voters approve it, Wilson told trustees. The district won\u2019t sell bonds for projects if enrollment conditions change significantly and render them needless, Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to go and just do it just because we have it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The district also said proposed projects are focused on repair, not on enrollment growth.<\/p>\n<p>Any project included in the final package required a two-thirds supermajority from committee members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was amazing to bring folks with different opinions from all over our community and come to consensus,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>Implementation of the bond program, if approved, would begin in 2027 and occur over three to five years, the district said.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens Bond Advisory Committee recommendations:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maintenance repairs and renovations to 34 campuses\/facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, code compliance, life safety, building envelope\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>New turf at middle school fields and high school baseball and softball fields<\/li>\n<li>Replacement of Keller Athletic Complex Fieldhouse and site repairs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keller Middle School replacement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Modern learning environment<\/li>\n<li>Safety improvements<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Maintain previously rebuilt portions of building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Technology replacements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student and teacher learning devices\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Network infrastructure and campus connectivity<\/li>\n<li>Cyber security, data center infrastructure, back-up and disaster recovery<\/li>\n<li>Enterprise resource planning solution<\/li>\n<li>Classroom, campus and safety technology systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Natatorium maintenance and equipment replacement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Site repairs<\/li>\n<li>Restrooms<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical and plumbing equipment replacement<\/li>\n<li>HVAC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The committee met 11 times and conducted facility tours, financial reviews and multiple rounds of mock bond exercises, committee chair Lizzy Johnson said during the July 23 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe men, women, community members, parents, students, staff who served on this committee were totally dedicated from start to finish,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cAnd as many of you know who came to our meetings, they were intense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gavin Sullivan, a Keller Central High School student representative on the committee and senior class secretary, called the experience \u201ctruly eye-opening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first joined this group, I wasn\u2019t entirely sure what I was getting into, but the experience at our tables was truly eye-opening and beyond that of just a member, but as a person in general,\u201d Sullivan said.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Zarate is a freelance journalist.
