Her latest film as a director-plus-actress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-invite\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-invite_1\" data-tag=\"the-invite\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Invite<\/a>, is scheduled to screen in the Swiss town\u2019s big central square, the Piazza Grande, on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAhead of the screening in front of 8,000 people, Wilde was asked why she was adamant for the movie to get a run in cinemas. \u201cThey bribe you to not take theatrical,\u201d she replied. \u201cWe have to fight for it\u201d to have a run in theaters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a bribe. They pay you more,\u201d Wilde continued. \u201cNot the filmmaker, no; the financiers will get a lot more money to go to streaming, and you can take that bribe and give that up if that\u2019s where your priorities lie. But we were really lucky that our financier gave me the opportunity to make this decision, which is something I don\u2019t take lightly. She could have very easily said no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tConcluded Wilde: \u201cA24 has been extraordinary because they really believe in the theatrical game. FilmNation made the international deals around the world, all theatrical. So all these great distributors around the planet have invested in this film being seen in theaters. So, I\u2019m very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe filmmaker also suggested: \u201cThere is no genre that benefits from the communal [viewing] experience more than comedy.\u201d Comedies have often \u201cbeen delegated to that second tier that really doesn\u2019t deserve cinema,\u201d she added. But Wilde said she and her partners on the film felt they wanted to allow the film to get a \u201cchemical reaction\u201d from a cinema audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAsked about what she took away from making The Invite, Wilde on Saturday shared with the press that it made her \u201cso much more romantic.\u201d Explained the filmmaker: \u201cIt melted the cynic out of me.\u201d After all, the film is about the \u201cridiculous experiment of co-habitation,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cThere is so much shame in failing in a relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWith a screenplay by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, the movie stars Wilde, Seth Rogen, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz and Edward Norton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/the-invite-review-olivia-wilde-seth-rogen-penelope-cruz-1236484375\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Invite<\/a> focuses on Joe and Angela, whose marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors Pi\u00f1a and Hawk for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. The question is: Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn her press conference, Wilde also lauded her fallow stars of the film. \u201cI\u2019ve never been a part of something this collaborative,\u201d she shared, speaking of an acting \u201cmasterclass\u201d that made her feel like she was part of a \u201cjazz quartet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAsked about how much she enjoys the director\u2019s chair, Wilde said: \u201cDirecting is the greatest job in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSaturday evening screening of The Invite was a hot ticket in Locarno. \u201cWe are writing to let you know that this evening\u2019s screening in Piazza Grande (Saturday, Aug. 8) is sold out for all ticket and day pass categories,\u201d an email from the festival early Saturday afternoon highlighted. \u201cAs a result, we are expecting very high attendance.\u201d It added: \u201cTo help ease the flow of entry and ensure the screening starts promptly, gates open at 20:00 \u2014 we strongly advise all guests to arrive well in advance.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Olivia Wilde met the international press during the 79th\u00a0edition of the Locarno Film Festival on Saturday.
