\n\tIt\u2019s been nearly six years since Mahershala Ali<\/a> stepped out onstage during Marvel Studios<\/a>\u2018 Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, where producer Kevin Feige announced that the two-time Oscar-winning actor would be playing the vampire slayer Blade<\/a>, rebooting the character first originated on-screen by Wesley Snipes and adding him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, the project has dropped numerous directors, lost cast members and faced several delays.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut even through all that turbulent development, Ali tells Variety he\u2019s keen to start filming on \u201cBlade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCall Marvel,\u201d Ali said at the New York premiere of his new film \u201cJurassic World Rebirth.\u201d The actor kept his answer brief when asked when \u201cBlade\u201d production could start. \u201cI\u2019m ready. Let them know I\u2019m ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMarvel Studios first announced Blade in 2019, alongside other projects like Disney Plus series \u201cWandaVision,\u201d \u201cLoki\u201d and \u201cThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier,\u201d as well as movies like \u201cEternals,\u201d \u201cShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u201d and \u201cDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.\u201d But while all those projects have been produced and released, Marvel Studios is still trying to ice-skate uphill with \u201cBlade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast October, Disney rem<\/a>oved \u201cBlade\u201d from its release calendar altogether, taking it off a Nov. 7, 2025 release date. That came after numerous prior delays; the film\u2019s first official release date was Nov. 3, 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project first saw filmmaker Bassam Tariq sign on to direct the movie, before he exited in September 2022, roughly two months before a planned production start. Since then, director Yann Demanger has also joined and exited. Actors Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo were reportedly attached to star alongside Ali, but both have since revealed that they have left the project.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails,\u201d Lindo told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> about the project back in April.<\/p>\n

\n\tBack in November, Feige said that Marvel Studios was \u201cstill committed\u201d<\/a> to \u201cBlade,\u201d speaking at Disney\u2019s D23 Brazil event: \u201cWe love the character. We love Mahershala\u2019s take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You\u2019re all up to date on what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAli\u2019s last update on the project was in December 2023, when he said<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m really encouraged with the direction of the project.
