NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. — The Believe 271 Foundation held its 12th annual golf tournament today, continuing efforts to support local first responders.<\/p>\n

This year’s tournament was the biggest one yet, with officials having to turn away eight groups of participants because they were over capacity.<\/p>\n

The foundation was founded in 2014 with the goal of providing financial assistance to firefighters, EMTs and Ladies Auxiliaries throughout Herkimer and Oneida counties.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Over the years, they have donated over $525,000 to people battling cancer, and other diseases.<\/p>\n

“So much of their medical care just isn’t covered. We’ve helped people with transportation to Buffalo, Boston, even Texas. We’re just so proud to get to make a difference in helping these people recover,” said Believe 271 President Brian McQueen.<\/p>\n

New to this year’s tournament was the memorial putting green, full of signs honoring service members who were helped by Believe 271 before they died.<\/p>\n

“We want to make sure that we recognize all our people that we’ve given to in the past. It’s just a reminder of how much we’ve given. And it’s a nice way to recognize them,” said Vice President of Believe 271 Fred Sherman.<\/p>\n

Believe 271 representatives said that without the support from the community, they wouldn’t be able to help people in the way they are today.<\/p>\n
