{"id":993691,"date":"2026-08-11T04:16:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T04:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/993691\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T04:16:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T04:16:28","slug":"tom-krasovic-matchup-between-mason-miller-the-miz-will-have-to-wait-until-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/993691\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Krasovic: Matchup between Mason Miller, &#8216;The Miz&#8217; will have to wait until October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s a shame that when the Padres and Brewers meet three times this week, this galactic showdown won\u2019t happen:<\/p>\n<p>The Padres send out their pitcher whose fastball looks like a \u201cStar Wars\u201d laser.<\/p>\n<p>The Brewers answer with their pitcher whose fastball also looks like a \u201cStar Wars\u201d laser.<\/p>\n<p>Who could forget seeing Mason Miller and Jacob Misiorowski, \u201cThe Reaper\u201d and \u201cThe Miz,\u201d squaring off in the East Village, authoring a supersonic matchup, each catcher opting for an asbestos mitt?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019d be cool,\u201d said Misiorowski, the Brewers\u2019 ace, adding that he enjoyed pitching opposite Pirates flamethrower Paul Skenes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow,\u201d said former Padres World Series catcher Carlos Hernandez, adding that he\u2019d like to catch each righty\u2019s triple-digit fastballs and wipeout sliders.<\/p>\n<p>As the home pitcher, Miller would begin this celestial smoke show.<\/p>\n<p>The Padres closer\u2019s fastball has clocked as fast as 104.5 mph; his fastball averages 101.5 mph, best in the big leagues.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski throws to the plate during the seventh inning of a game against the Angels on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, at Angel Stadium. (Photo by Luiza Moraes\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>As a starter, \u201cThe Miz\u201d cooks at 100.6 mph, and in a recent game, his first pitch registered 105.5.<\/p>\n<p>At 67 years old, Brewers manager Pat Murphy has seen a few power pitchers in his day.<\/p>\n<p>A Miller-Miz duel would be something else, he agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou won\u2019t see it\u201d this week, he said, \u201cunless you want me to bring him into relief tonight or tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d be fine with it.\u00a0Padres hitters might not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Miz\u201d shut them out in May for seven innings, leading to a Padres defeat in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p>Padres buzzkill Craig Stammen didn\u2019t warm to the notion of having Miller start a game just for entertainment\u2019s sake, saying he\u2019ll stick with having baseball\u2019s best closer finish off games, thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>In a nod to the Miller-Miz duel\u2019s entertainment value, Stammen did get off a good line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you not entertained?\u201d the manager hollered, doing a fine Russell Crowe\/Maximus in \u201cGladiator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miller and Misiorowski, for their parts, find entertainment in watching the other pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all appreciate some of the best pitchers in the game, and he\u2019s certainly been that this year,\u201d Miller, 27, said of fellow All-Star Misiorowski, 24. \u201cThe velocity is exciting, but just everything else that he\u2019s doing, the success he\u2019s having \u2014 that\u2019s more what carries the admiration in this game.<\/p>\n<p>Miller marveled about the 6-foot-7, 201-pounder, who ranks first among qualified big leaguers in ERA (1.76), strikeouts (204), WHIP (0.737) and adjusted ERA (better than the league average by 135%).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s very blessed, very blessed, for sure,\u201d Miller said. \u201cWe should sit back and watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Misiorowski said he loves how Miller attacks hitters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s coming after guys, pounding the zone, trying to end games quickly,\u201d he said of the 6-5, 200-pounder, who shows a major-best 29 saves and a 0.91 ERA in 49 innings. \u201cWe kind of have the same style, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy saw fit to single out Miller\u2019s intangibles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe seems like an unbelievable cat,\u201d he said. \u201cEverything I hear, from pretty reliable sources, is that he\u2019s just such the right dude and willing to do anything for the team. So, when I hear about guys like that, I pull for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know \u2018Miz,\u2019 and I see the way he\u2019s progressed, the maturity that he\u2019s had, and I pull for him, too, for obvious reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Miller and Misiorowski were to square off, hitters on each team would have to cope with more than pure velocity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth of them have really good sliders,\u201d said Padres pitcher Robbie Ray, who won a Cy Young Award five years ago with the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n<p>And because each tall righty lets go of the ball farther down the mound than most big leaguers do, their fastballs arrive even sooner than the velocity would imply.<\/p>\n<p>Miller\u2019s release, almost seven feet from the rubber, lands in MLB\u2019s 81st percentile.<\/p>\n<p>Misiorowski cuts loose nearly a foot farther. At 7.6 feet from the slab, his extension is unsurpassed.<\/p>\n<p>Even big leaguers are awed by \u201cThe Miz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he gets down the mound, his foot is almost down by the grass; it\u2019s down by the edge of the dirt,\u201d Ray said. \u201cSo, not only is it 104, it\u2019s coming at you with eight feet of extension. That\u2019s really impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Misiorowski hasn\u2019t pitched in the East Village and won\u2019t pitch here this week.<\/p>\n<p>The solution here?<\/p>\n<p>The Padres and Brewers meet here in October.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Miz\u201d starts the game.
